W/the number of guys they have rostered does anyone think they've done a tryout among the other players?

I remember doing this in 2000 looking for a punter.  Phil Barry, an awesome punter, graduated and left a big void.  We basically had open tryouts.  Charlie Carr won.
Is it too late in the season for them to do that again? To me that feels like a week 1 thru 4 experiment. At this point we probably need to come up w/ a half dozen to a dozen 2 pt plays.

A few little (hopefully correct  :) factoids about this weekends games.

Augsburg @ Bethel - Bethel leads the all-time series 26-12-3. Bethel has won the last 3 meeting, Augsburg's last win was 49-42 in 2015. It is interesting to me that Augsburg dominated the early years of this rivalry going 8-3-1 in the first 12 meetings.

I'm shocked Bethel actually tied or beat them 4 times in that era. Bethel was epically bad back in the 80's. I think they'd won something like 5 games in the decade prior to Coach J's hiring in 89.  :o

Honestly, this game against Hamline couldn't come at a better time for SJU to either figure out their kicking woes (i.e. give 2-3 guys a final shot at the job when you score 8+TD's) or start the full blown experiment with what are your best 2 pt conversion plays. If it's the latter, you can actually start working through your good 2 pt plays, setting things up for your best 2pt plays, some that are no doubt counters to these plays, and keep them in your pocket for the playoffs.

We've only got 6 kickers to choose from on the roster. I thought competition was suppose to bring out the best in people!

You can put me solidly on the side of "start the 2-pt conversion strategy now!"

Unless of course, they are setting up 12 foot ladders (a-la Dan Nystrom of the '99 Gophers before playing Penn State with LaVar Arrington) and these kickers are going 14 for 14 every day this week in practice (a-la Adam Vinatieri with the Patriots/Colts).

SJU needs to figure out its kicking game. Maybe 2-point plays can be successfully run on extra points, but not having a kicking game on 4th and long from the back of the red zone really hurts against a good defense (which will be every team after the first round of playoffs).

What do you think an eight-figure donation means? I'm thinking more than $60 million, but less than $99 million. I'm not sure why UST would withhold the figure. Whatever the figure might be, it's very generous of the Morrison family.

I still find it quite amusing that UST complained about getting booted from the MIAC.  UST doesn't want to be there.  It's obvious they weren't long for the conference.  So they left on the member's schedule rather than their own.  Big deal.  They were leaving all the same.

I don't necessarily disagree, but what does this have to do with a large donation that endows the college of health?

Are you such a arrogant ass in real life (and I hear that you are), or just a special prick to this board?  Would love to hear anyone else defend you...

Off the wagon again or is this just who you are?

I will defend him. The Rev is a great guy that does a nice job in character on this board. We have been trying to meet up for a beer but it has not worked out yet.

I think at this point realistically making midrange to longer FG's (my definition of 'back of the redzone') is not an option for SJU. It's either figure out how to make PAT's and FG's from the 10 yd line and closer. Or commit to the 2 pt conversion theory.
