The only ads I get are the banner ads at the top (currently trying to persuade me to by my wife a pink diamond from the Argyle diamond mine - fat chance).  Do people get more than that banner?

Unlikely.  It's all targeted these days.  We recently purchased a mattress for moving one of the kids from a crib to a bed, so of course I've googled mattresses recently, so I see a "purple mattress" ad.

When that same ad appeared inside someone's post on the board, I though I was missing some vague humor about UST, due to the purple connection.

I only get top banner like you. I don't know what they advertise.  :D

If I were getting pop up ads then I would be annoyed, but the banner ad is no issue. Not worth blocking I reckon.

Pat,

Could you provide those of us on this board some insight into what the Regional voters are seeing that justify having teams ranked in the D3 Top 25 #15 and #21 as the #3 and #4 teams in the Regional rankings?  Ahead of #8 and #9 from a conference that is widely accepted as being a much tougher, higher quality conference.  I hate to point out the obvious, but the SCIAC playoff record in the past 10 seasons is 0-11......what evidence exists this season that those two teams (Chapman and Redlands) are qualitatively different from their predecessors?

0-11 tends to happen when the SCIAC champion is routinely sent to Belton, TX for a first round matchup. Redlands beat Linfield who has then ran roughshod through their conference, so their ranking is deserved. Chapman is very good, and they squeezed by Redlands, so right now the rankings reflect a strong season so far for the SCIAC.

My guess is Redlands beat Linfield and has a great SOS and Chapman undefeated, and beating Redlands is more than enough justification...

If the loss to the Cobbers wasn't painful enough, the regional rankings certainly are! It appears that our only hope to make a playoff run is to not get in a close game.

Ouch.

West Region
1. UW-Whitewater 7-0
2. Wartburg 8-0
3. Chapman 7-0
4. Redlands 7-1
5. Saint John's 7-1
6. Bethel 7-1
7. Linfield 6-1
8. Central 7-1
9. UW-Oshkosh 6-2
10. Martin Luther 7-1

The punishment certainly fits the crime for us on this one.  Road Warriors here we come!

While I have no insight into what was going on when the regional rankings were selected, I also would like to add another hypothetical question to the mix: As things are right now, Redlands is #4 and the Johnnies are number 5. Who would host a game between this number 4 and number 5? I would guess the Johnnies because they won their conference, but would the Johnnies travel because of better SOS by Redlands? Obviously, there will be some shifting of rankings for the next couple of weeks, and these two teams may not end up in the same bracket - but what if this was the final ranking, how do you all feel it's going to fall?

In a hypothetical matchup between the two today, the higher seed would host, for sure.

Good question. I would think Redlands would travel as St. John's are the MIAC champion.

Pool C teams host AQs all the time. "Which pool you qualified in" is not one of the factors in seeding.

Thanx Pat - well, that certainly makes everything very interesting - as 2 SCIAC teams might be hosts - wow!

Also remember, St. John's can no longer receive credit for last year's playoff run since they aren't undefeated.  You're at the mercy of a weak SoS statistic and the regionally ranked opponents which is based on that flawed SoS.  It's absolutely silly that the difference between hosting and not hosting a game might be that Gustavus is 11th (just out of the rankings) in the region instead of 10th.

Bethel and SJU should be GAC fans this weekend. It would help both their seeds (and Bethel's chance to just get in), assuming both teams also win out. No gimme for Bethel with UST looming large.
