Gonna give a shout out to my Cobbs who salvaged a little something out of this past season by clawing back into a tie for 4th in the conference. The year's highlight is obvious. Lowlight was actually the loss to GAC, as that game had been won with a minute remaining and GAC pulled one out of the hat. In the end, the lack of any hint of a passing game cost the Cobbers dearly this year. Being "run oriented" is one thing, but being run dependent is another. Maybe next year...

Time to pull for the Johnnies now, which is always a bit of a compromising position, but so it is. I'll always say "Go Johnnies". (Most of the time I'll add a destination though  ;D)

Yeah, I really really didn't understand the Cobs philosophy this year. If they didn't have the right talent to run the triple option including the pass as an option (meaning a true dual threat QB and fast tailbacks that can catch a pitch and get the edge), why even run it? Plus, the better defenses in the MIAC figured how to blow up that scheme. They looked OK running out of a more traditional spread/pistol with trips and a tight end at times. Weird season with familiar results of sitting in the 3-5 position in the MIAC.

I was impressed with the QB play yesterday (presumably next season's starter). Only 4/5 but 128 yards and 3 passing touchdowns. Also had over 170 running and another TD. Something to build on, even if they weren't exactly playing against the steel curtain D.
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

NFL chance for Concordia's Alex Berg as punter? NFL distance averages are between 43.8 and 48.6 currently. Alex's 45.0 yard average (in not usually the best of conditions) would put him at the top of the lower quartile...but he can obviously tackle as a top linebacker.  I know consistency and ability to place a punt well are also factors, but is defensive ability in punter ever taken into consideration?

How many times have you seen a returner "just have the punter to beat" and it is a total embarrassment?

He actually had a 75 yarder yesterday (wind aided). Official measure was from the LOS at the 25 to the end zone, but he kicked it from the 12 and first bounce was the opposite 15 yard line.

Why did the gophers onside kick w 3:30 left to play??!
Asking for a friend.
Makes sense to me. Gotta make the defensive stop either way, so if you can get an extra shot at possession, take it. Field position is less critical at that spot, gotta make the stop and get the ball back.

To me it seemed early...kick deep and make a stop...make them punt flip the field and get the ball at midfield instead of the 20.
Certainly an interesting analytical decision worthy of debate.

If I remember correctly, they didn't use the clock very well and didn't have any timeouts left. They probably thought they might not get the ball back.
Gophs had one timeout. On their last possession Iowa gave the Gophs a couple of breaks..on second down they only let the play clock run down to 15 secs and threw an incomplete pass on another play.

Also curious how many people think Tanner Morgan faked his injury at the end of the gAme?

It wasn't me...but I did want to smack the woman in front of me at Kinnick (my 15 year old daughter wanted to as well).

Long time lurker, first time poster. He was chirping at the refs after the punt debacle the play before and must've said something that warranted the boot.

Welcome to the boards!

The guy must have had his house bet on the spread.

I asked Charlie Carr about it because I didn't see what happened, but the guy was out on the sideline dropping f-bombs towards the ref.  He appeared to be well in the bag. ;D

I was on the opposite end of the field and Duff can vouch for me.

I was well in the bag but nowhere near the field.  This is becoming a Sherlock Holmes mystery.

Well repeated swearing should get you removed from the game. Makes sense.

The packers would win this game.  A test of character for the Vikes.

OzJohnnie

Wow. The Vikes won. Man, the heartache this year will be immense. Will it hurt as bad as Philly?  As bad as New Orleans?  It's going to hurt, that's for sure.

I vouch for him.  He was in a heated football game with my son and his son.  ;D

But was he swearing so much that it drew attention from the ref?
