Saturday's game would be a lot more fun if it was played in the snow up in Collegeville.
Why'd your Johnnies have to go and lose to Concordia?

If the current forecast for the weekend holds, the gophers game could end up like that.  Probably favors WI if that holds up, given Jonathan Taylor?  Hope not!

Don't ever sign your kids up for organized, especially club sports...I just got around to finishing up all the "to dos / paperwork" for club volleyball. Took 45 minutes of my life away...not too mention the $$$$$ that it costs!!!

Man, you seem like a really fun guy.

My thought as well, especially complaining about taking 45 minutes of his life away for his kids. I understand complaining about the costs, but not about the time you invest in your kids.

Just a guess....neither of you have kids older than 10?  ;) ;D

Wrong - all 4 of my kids are now 30+. Sorry, but that comment hit a nerve with me. I have never considered the time I spent for my kids as taking time away from my life. That's what being a parent is all about. If you are going to be that upset about 45 minutes, makes me wonder how much complaining you would do if you had to dedicate a whole weekend for a tournament for your kids. Just didn't sound like a comment a parent would make.

Complaining about spending 45 minutes with your kids is different than complaining about spending 45 minutes on dumb paperwork and jumping through hoops for their activities.

It might be necessary evil. But it's still an evil.

It may not be time spent with your kids, but it is for your kids. I have never looked at something like that as being evil, it is just something that is part of being a parent. 45 minutes is a relatively small amount of time to be complaining about for something that your kids may get a lifetime of enjoyment/memories from.  I will gladly spend 45 minutes filing out forms for my kids benefit. ;) Guess we just have a difference of opinion on the subject.

I would suggest not taking everything I or others post so literally. I ran  the St. Paul highland softball 🥎 program for a about 3-4 years (something i am very proud of doing) and coached my daughters teams on and off during that time. I organized and conducted winter pitching and skills clinics (many of which my kids did not attend). I oversaw registration, tryouts, team selection, in-house drafts for summer and fall ball...addressed parent complaints, scheduled practice slots, games times, umpires...hauled equipment, organized storage sheds, stored gear in my own garage, arranged for fundraising, ordered uniforms each season for 150-200 girls. At times it was more work than my actual job.

I've been to more softball and volleyball games and tournaments than I can even count or even remember.

Softball tournaments in Eagan, Mankato, St Paul, Cold Spring, Ham Lake, Hudson, Shakopee, Lakeville, Farmington, Empire Township, Eden Prairie, Plymouth, Cottage Grove, Champlain Park, and Inver Grove to name a few...wet grass / wet shoes, rain / torrential downpours, wind, snow (MiacMan actually was at one in Lakeville filing in as coach for his daughter and coaching my daughter about 7 years ago), freezing cold, boiling hot!

Volleyball in Bloomington, Spring Lake Park, Hopkins, Maple Grove, Monticello, Duluth, Whapeton / Breckenridge, St Louis Park, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Orlando and that's probably not all.

So forgive me if I'm a bit cynical, flippant, and or sarcastic about filling out paperwork, liability and medical forms for the 43rd time....I'm pretty sure when my parents signed me up for Henderson Little League around 1979 or 80 it was one sheet of paper and a check for about $10. Compare that to JO volleyball that costs anywhere from $1400 to about $10,000 (w air travel and hotel) and offers a "check box" if you would like to receive emails and assistance getting your player recruited to play in college...WTH??? She's 5'7" at best!!  :P

Well stated Jam, but I think he really does kick trick-or-treaters off his lawn and makes them use the sidewalk before giving them one midget tootsie roll and sending them on their way.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still convinced faunch (like all Johnnies) is a terrible person.
Well yes I am...Thank you!

I decided to do some of my own investigation on the volleyball fees and you were not kidding.  The local JO club near me wants a minimum of $3,000 starting at age 11, quickly bumping up to $6,000 per year by the time they're 14.  3 practices a week and 2-3 day tournaments every other weekend for 6 months.  Insane.

Those numbers don't include travel. Last year my kid made a 1's team. Travel to Vegas, Kansas City, WI Dells, and Orlando. My estimate w/ flights and hotel was easily over another $2,500-3000. What's crazy is the families that have more than one kid playing this and might be paying $10-20,000 a year on this. And if you're kid might be good enough to play at a private D3 school that costs $50,000 a year!  ::)  ;D

This article by Pat Borzi about UST moving to D1 s in today's New York Times:

Considering this is the rag that had an entire article referring to Minnesota Sen. Al Franklin not that long ago, I'm not surprised that they got the name of the Johnnie-Tommie game wrong.  ;)
