They're 35 miles and a whole mindset apart.

The real question is whether people from Naperville/Wheaton/Aurora lie about where they are from when asked. My mom lived in Chicago for several years and my father-in-law was from Chicago, and they both talked about how people from the Chicago metro would lie about where they were from when they were out of town. There were a number of conversations that instantly changed the minute the person they were talking to had an understanding of Chicago.

"Where you from?"
"Chicago."
"Cool. Me too. I grew up in Thornton."
"Yeah, I live in Lombard."

By contrast, people from the Twin Cities will generally tell people the name of the suburb, and when they received a puzzled look they would add, "it's just outside of Minneapolis."

I still remember the line and picks from the 2003 Stagg.

I was curious to see what they were saying back then, so I fired up the wayback machine.... early 2000s web design was gloriously hideous!

Pat, do we have a running total of web hits since July 1999 like there used to be on the old site? Have we hit 100 million yet?

We've been running D3football.com on its current platform for just about 10 years, and in that time have had 24 million page views. Which is cool and has brought in a nice amount of revenue -- until you divide it by 10 years! 😂

Minnesota Nice, meet Minnesota Precise. ;)

My favorite part of suburbanites trying to pass themselves off as Chicagoans is what they say when they find out that you're actually from Chicago. They'll reply, "Oh, you live downtown?" That's their word for Chicago itself: "Downtown", as if the Loop encompassed all 228 square miles of the city.

That was back when Pat was painting the website on a cave wall in southern France and the Stagg Bowl was nicknamed "the quest for fire". ;)

Pour one out for OAS.

Nice to see Ric's name there again, too, in those '03 predictions.

MiacMan

MIAC #1 vs. CCIW #1

This is where the rubber hits the road! The first real test, we'll see if my theory stands? Jays by 10, Go MIAC!

This is the one that I was really excited to watch when the brackets were released.  When was the last time (if ever) that SJU played Wheaton?

Looks like if they've every played, it was before 1986.  There is no history available for them on the Johnnie football history page. https://gojohnnies.com/sports/football/opponent-history

Edit: Yep, first every according to Wheaton's site.
QuoteNext Saturday's matchup will be the first meeting on the gridiron between Wheaton and St. John's.

Any history of Wheaton vs the MIAC?
I don't recall St Thomas ever facing them.

Bunch of Bethel games and a couple Gustavus games in early 2000's.

Bethel beat them 15-10 in the 2010 playoffs.  Wheaton had beaten them in the regular season the previous 2 years.  Wheaton also beat Gustavus in 2004 and 2005.

Wheaton won at home 10-7 in 2008 in a total deluge, Wheaton won @Bethel on the last play of the game in 2009 29-26 and Bethel won @Wheaton in the playoffs in 20010 15-10. The other data point, for what it's worth, is Wheaton beat NCC 42-20 in 2017 when NCC beat St Johns in the playoffs 17-7 that year.

Bethel's games against the CCIW have all been memorable.  The two regular season losses to Wheaton were both hard fought, as was the playoff win.  I attended the home game, (2009 loss) and remember that last play well.  Sat in front of the computer stressed out watching the playoff win, and watched most of the road loss in 2008 as well.

BU's playoff loss to NCC in 2013 was in horribly freezing weather, on a frozen field...Peterson had gotten injured the week before against Wartburg, and Bethel never really had a chance against an impressive NCC passing attack.  Not that Peterson would have made the difference, but he certainly would've helped close the gap for what was, IMO, the best all around team the BU has fielded.  NCC nearly knocked off UMU the following game, but then UMU went on to get drilled by UWW.

I had low expectations last year for BU at NCC, but was happily surprised with the result, in another great game...hopefully SJU can pull it off this weekend!  Having arguably the best QB left certainly doesn't hurt...
