So, we're basing Wheaton's potential performance on comparisons between Erdmann and a QB that Wheaton faced in the regular season?  ::)  Or did Rutter transfer to Wheaton this week?

No, but we are giving Wheaton a comparable qb to consider. Bethel is the only team to have faced both Rutter and Erdmann in the last two years to my knowledge. They are both elite talents. I assumed some Wheaton fans likely wondered how Erdmann compares to Rutter, a QB they know well. There are a lot of similarities between the two. That's the only point I was making.

And I'm not implying SJU can't/won't win. Just acknowledging the type of challenge they face. Imo, best and most complete teams remaining are SJU, NCC, and Wheaton. UWW has the D but I question their QB play and offense. Same thoughts regarding UMHB.

I think the most dangerous aspect of the Johnnie pass attack (aside from the obvious Erdmann) is the depth of the receiving corp with two players over 1000 each and five more averaging 30 to 50 yards a game (two of whom have had a couple hundred yard games themselves this year).  While you take the comparison team of NCC they have one WR with just short of 1700 yards catching and only two more than average more than 30 yards a game (one at 46 and one at 60).  NCC presents the more classic scenario of one superstar WR and a few good ones, which Wheaton dealt with just fine.  The Johnnie corp runs a legit three or four deep meaning you need a defensive backfield that runs that deep.

I think if anything challenges the Wheaton defense it will be the Johnnie ability to run without a huddle and a set of players that can go three, four and five wide without substitution.  I'm really hoping this that is the weekend when we witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station.

Wow. You guys probably would have hung an 80 burger on Mt Union then.

Keep your shorts on.  You'll get the chance to lose to the Johnnie freight train soon enough.  If you manage to keep winning that is.

(But your point is noted.  Other than the fact I support the Johnnies my analysis is correct.  Well, you can't win them all.)

Johnnies got another kicker hanging out on campus? I know another Minnesota team that could use one.

That really was a very bad time to miss an extra point!

Veek

The Johnnies did get a new kicker after the Concordia game.  He is a junior who played QB as a freshman and DB as a sophomore but did not go out this year.  The coaches must have known that he could kick, however, as he joined the team after the loss to Concordia and in his very first game he was 10 for 10 on PATs.

GO JOHNNIES!!!
Go Johnnies!!!

By most statistical categories this years Wheaton defense is historical. It will be quite an entertaining matchup between the Johnnie offense and Wheaton defense.

What I find very compelling about this quarterfinal matchup is how the transfers from d-1 have elevated both teams to have a legitimate shot of either beating powerhouse d-3 perennial favorites UMHB or UW-Whitewater in the semifinal to eventually going to the Stagg bowl.  St. Johns has Penn St. transfer Jackson Erdmann, who was last year's best QB/player in d-3(and possibly this year's as well) and yet Wheaton has 2 of their d-lineman Patrick O'Connell and Dallas McCrae who transferred from mid-major d-1 schools (Ball St. and Southern Utah University) and 1 of their safeties, Corey Kennedy who transferred from mid-major Northern Illinois.  With the Johnnie offense and Thunder defense, it is truly a battle between an unstoppable force and an unmoveable object!

While it's true that Erdmann transferred from Penn State, he wasn't on scholarship.  It's not like he played for 2 years and then came to SJU.  If memory serves me correctly, he spend a semester at PSU and then saw the light.  :)

With all of the Broc Rutter talk I think you might have missed that USee is a Wheaton guy.

You've been poking around here since the day the brackets were released.  What did you expect, Wheaton worship?  SJU's got a good team.  Better than Wheaton?  I don't know.  We'll find out in a few days.

No outsiders welcome?  That's certainly not very inviting.

Every team left is a good team I agree. St Johns is an epic program that Wheaton fans will love to see in person. Honestly, I am very worried about this game because I know how talented the Johnnies are since I follow the MIAC pretty closely during the year. I have seen them play more than once.

Enjoy the silence.
