First it was the Bethel hatred, now Pat hates the Johnnies. He also defended UST during TomToss. Either Pat went and got a grad degree from one of St Thomas's numerous excellent programs or Fr McMichael has brainwashed him over to the dark side. Either way, welcome to the club Pat.

We put up the Christmas tree today and hung twinkle lights on the house.  Every year the girls try to get me to go full Clark Griswold and drain the nuclear power plant.  We'll see.  A couple weeks to go and I just might go buy some new stuff for the house.

my take on today's SJU game with Wheaton is that if SJU does not shoot itself in the foot with turnovers and dumb penalties, they will win. I am glad they are away because I think they will be more focused.  Wheaton has not really faced any steep competition since the North Central game, 9 weeks ago or two-thirds a season ago. SJU has played ST Thomas, Bethel and most recently Aurora (a very for real offensive Goliath). I remember the praise for the SJU offense line after the St. Thomas game. So my hopes remain high that they will be half-way decent. Maybe Wheaton finds itself struggling against some real competition. It has faced none for 9 weeks. I also believe SJU has superior coaching. So adding the coaching, the offense, the schedules, SJU should win. I do worry about injury to SJU from a stupid cheap shot.

Worrying about a cheap shot?  You're not playing UST today.  No need to worry.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Good luck today guys!  I've enjoyed the banter this week, although just getting around to posting.

Hoping for an injury free affair.  It's exciting for Wheaton to be playing an iconic program that isn't named Mt. Union, which has historically been the hurdle we couldn't overcome. I hope it's a great game.

Perhaps I've missed it discussed, but one of the things I'm interested in seeing is how the Wheaton running backs handle the Johnnie D.  The Thunder have great depth at running back, with varied styles (slasher, power, etc).  The big play has received all the publicity this year, but IMO the running attack makes everything go.  If St. John's can limit the running game, Wheaton may have to play shoot out, which we don't want to do against the Johnnie Offense.

Wheaton is also one of the most penalized teams in D3.  I'm hoping that we can limit those mental errors.  They can be crushing, and really dig you a hole that top teams don't let you out of.

Again, good luck, and enjoy the game!

You are supposed to do that the day after Thanksgiving! What were you doing,? Sitting on the couch, eating left over turkey, watching another football game? (Or using the flying wedge blocking your way thru the madness of Black Friday?😁) But...at least you got to the task, so  we'll let that slide this time!🙄🤪🙂

You do know, don't you, that Oz lives down under and it is his "summer" right now? He can hang lights in shorts and a T.

And Pat, of course, picked against SJU-no surprise. But i agree that in order to win they need to put up 35 or more.

2-0 picking SJU games so far in this tournament.

Pat you were sooo wrong about the Johnnies needing to put up 35, 34 did just fine.  ;D

Good luck to St Johns who played a great game both offensively and defensively.

WOOOO!  What a game!

Man, Wheaton were tough.  Played hard, physical, fast football.  The Johnnies never said die and got it with the greatest irony.  The defense did just enough.  But Erdmann.  What a Johnnie legend.

SJU13

Dang that game had it all! Got real nervous in the fourth when Wheaton seemed to only need to bring their big 4 to get pressure. Anyone have an idea of winning percentage when a team ends with negative rush yards?

sfury

With 6 minutes left said SJU defense just needed one defensive stop in second half. One! And...they didn't get it. But still won. That's Johnnie Magic, I suppose.

So it's automatic any spike at all is that penalty? Because it was hardly a spike and I thought was extremely weak call. But I guess if it's auto, refs have no choice?

Tweeted this but putting it here:

Past two years Erdmann has faced 4 of the best D3 defenses; in some cases they actually were ranked No. 1 at time.

'18 St. Thomas: 470 yds 3 TDs
'18 UMHB: 418 yds 2 TDS
'19: Tommies: 451 yds, 3 TDS
'19 Wheaton: 407 yds, 5 TDs

Gagliardi always mentioned how the Johnnies were always having to replace irreplaceable players and somehow doing it, but I'm going to go and say it's going to be a bit tough replacing this guy.
