Wheaton coach in postgame presser said they were going to kick the whole time, no thought going for 2. Reasons: SJU's scores were big plays so liked their chances inside 25; offensively they were able to sustain drives so liked their chances with the ball; liked their kicking game better.

Interesting post-game statement from Swider. Did I miss usual congrats to the winners ... or any credit to SJU other than "they scored more points"? At least the players had the class to acknowledge there was another team on the field.

I can appreciate a coach standing up for his team, but compare Swider's remarks to Gary's after similar heartbreak at UMHB last season.

I did like his line about how you work at something for 12 years and then it just ends and people  go "oh, it's okay, move on." Said it doesn't work like that.

I agree. Yeah, life goes on but you remember losses like that forever, you just do. But that's what makes sports so great and why you play and watch. Because you know there's the opposite side of that, the joy you get to experience as well. Which wouldn't be as great if you didn't know how much it hurts to be on the other side.

Yes, I may have been a little mischievous in posting those two videos...

Well, I happened to just keep watching the rest of the video feeds and watched the Central post game pressers for both teams.  Central was gracious.  Wheaton's coach first comment right out of the shoot, while looking at the games stat sheets was, " Hey!  Didn't I have five tackles!  Where's my name?!?!
HA HA HA!!!"  Really?!?!  That's leadership?  I'm glad our game ended the way it did against them.  Not for the players, but for him...
The last shall be first and the  shall be... FIRST AGAIN!!!

Missed the postgame. Any news on Inman or Neumann?

I wasn't listening closely but I think Neumann is looking bad, Inmon ok. Not 100% sure that's right.

I think you have it backwards. Neumann went back in. Inman was not happy with what the medical people were telling him.

Whitewater's win today over UMHB ended UMHB's 27-game winning streak. I believe NAIA #1 Morningside now has the longest active winning streak at any level with 28.

I noticed when Central played them that their write-ups never mentioned the other team either. Wartburg does the same thing. Except for mentioning it they won or lost you wouldn't even know your team played them. I know you want to promote your team and players, but are you really so intimidated by the other team that you can't even acknowledge them? Cowardly if you ask me.

The vast majority of teams write their stories like that.  Most teams including the Johnnies also fail to include any of the other teams highlights in their videos, making it seem like they won every game 50-0.

This is part of the reason I was cheering on the Johnnies today. That and I will cheer for the red and white over the Orange most any time, though I do like Hope. I loved watching the game today and reading the in game updates. It was like watching with a bunch of friends.

Exactly; sports departments are going to be propaganda and there's nothing wrong with it, they are there for their school.

Sort of related but a detour: My first year as a newspaper reporter, I got hired to be a stringer by the Rochester paper as one of the teams they covered was playing in s'west MN in football playoffs. Forget who it was. I was a fresh-faced youngster and didn't really understand that when you're stringing for a different paper, they want you to, uh, focus on the team in their coverage area!

So I covered game, wrote the game story like normal for my paper (Worthington), and sent it to Rochester. One of their editors called back and was like, "what is this? It's all from Jackson County Central's angle?" Well, yeah, that was the story. They dominated. I talked to their running back who ran up and down the field. I talked to their coach and got a quote from the opposing team coach about the loss. But that was the story. "We hired you to write about...." whatever school it was. From their perspective. They didn't run the story, I didn't get paid and I learned what you're supposed to do as a stringer.

This is one of the reasons why we went out of our way to share the North Central highlight video from last week.

I get only showing your team's highlights in your videos, it is your highlight video. But a one team only press release doesn't really tell a story of how a game went.

Teams can do anything they want in their own videos and writeups. That's for their audiences. The NCAA mandatory news conference is a different animal. It's just good form to at least tip your cap.
