Massey rates this game 28-24, UWW.  Hansen says 29.1-24.9, SJU.  If they are at least correct that the game will be that close then I'm almost certain to have a heart attack this weekend.  bennie already had me drinking before 7:30am last weekend.
I'm already coming out of my skin and it's only Wednesday...or Thursday for you!

#$@%!  Thursday?  I actually thought it was Wednesday.  I'm so far behind in my work this week.  Damn.
Oz, we're all pretty nervous about Saturday over here.  Since you're almost a day ahead down there can you let us know Saturday morning who wins so we can watch the game for enjoyment and not worry about who's going to win?

Too funny! +K

I've always wondered about using sport as a direct revenue tool.  From a cost of goods sold perspective, sport must be a losing proposition.  Particularly the big ones that cost a bundle to run.  You not only have to fund the education product but the sporting product as well.  I can't imagine that even a school like SJU makes fully costed profits on it's football recruits.

But I do think sports add great atmosphere to an institution.  Long story short, even though I didn't play football at SJU, the fact that football had such a big influence on the school had a big influence on my decision.  I wanted to go to a place where I could get a good return on my money while also enjoying the atmosphere and vibe of the place.  A school with a happy attitude toward sport and great school spirit, however, tends to have a healthy intramural culture as well.  And that's cheap.

Oz,
I just bought a nice bottle of Australian wine. Do I need an anti-clockwise corkscrew to get the cork out?  ;D

No, but since Australia is on the southern hemisphere, you need to hold the bottle upside down while you open it.

Ha. I was going to say while standing on his head.

Regardless, 57, enjoy the bottle. I wasn't much of a wine drinker before I got here but the Aussies are into their alcoholic grape juice and I may have picked up a favourite or two myself.
I'm not much into it but Mrs57 doesn't mind a glass of Yalumba.  :)

More great points, OzJ.

BTW, for you SJU folks, I talked with Johnnie Red last week and he is doing well (actually visited with him in person this past summer also-think I mentioned that previously.)

If you like a heavy red then it's hard to go past a Barossa Valley wine.  Shiraz is the most popular variety in Aus and the Barossa has a lot of good ones, Yalumba being one.

Game notes!

This bit caught my eye.  I'm sure it's been in there before but I noticed it today for the first time.

Which Johnnie has been part of each NCAA postseason appearance, dating back to 1976? The answer is defensive coordinator Jerry Haugen '76, who is in his 44th season on the Johnnies' coaching staff. Saturday's game is his 66th NCAA postseason contest. Meaning, he has coached six additional seasons in playoff games alone.

I'm not sure how the hell this happened, and I don't really care, but my karma is currently at +623/-623. Does this mean that the Johnnie Smokefest has been officially squashed?

I gave you some -K ... just because the world seemed off axis if you were hitting .500  ;) 8-)

Do the Johnnies have special outfits when they go up against the Purple People Eaters?  :-[

Bluenote, you're missing a chance to tell MUC57 and OzJohnnie about LINFIELD's Wine Studies degree.

You just told me. Sounds good. Also, University of California at Davis has an outstanding program in all facets of wine production, from planting the vines to putting the corks in the bottle.
Bluenote marches to the beat of a different drummer. He misses lots of chances to make sense. Maybe he needs MY signature.
You're still my buddy, Bluenote.  ;D

Quick hoops interruption for Bennie and our Linfield friends. SJU is playing two road games next week at Linfield & Willamette Dec. 20-21.

Fingers crossed we can experience an SJU football/basketball doubleheader on the 20th.
