It still feels like part of this story is missing. Before the current cutting of football and men's and women's golf, there were 11 different women's sports teams and 7 different men's sports teams at St. Cloud State. Is it based on volume of athletes or number of sports offered? Because if it is volume of athletes I don't see how anyone with a football team anywhere can be in compliance with the rule.
Volume of athletes, quality of the locker rooms and fields, etc.   Number of sports offered is irrelevant except that if you're continually adding women's sports you can show your progress towards compliance.

I wouldn't call it "irrelevant" but it isn't necessarily a primary criteria.  It is about equivalent opportunities between genders, and the number of sports could affect those opportunities.  In D1, because football has 85 scholarships, schools need to have 85 women's scholarships to compensate.  That's why UMN has women's rowing and women's soccer-- they both add scholarships for women to offset the huge number allocated to men.

This all got out of whack back between 2011-2015 at SCSU.  Now they have to figure out what to do about it.
Women's soccer is at least a sport that is played in Minnesota high schools.  Rowing is the obvious Title IX addition.  They have to recruit by walking around campus looking for reasonably athletic girls with free time.  The other big equalizer that schools use is creating giant women's track and cross country teams.  There are many running events that don't limit the number of athletes you can have compete.

Rowing was an incredibly perplexing decision at the time. Not only do they have to work to find the athletes, it is also a prohibitively expensive sport with having to build a boathouse and ship the team and their rigs all around the country for competition. Field Hockey or Lacrosse would have made more sense at the time.

Here's where I see some hope for the Johnnies.  My "metric" is to look at how games end - how close they were late in the game.

So, look at UWW vs. Concordia.  The score was 13-10 when UWW scored it's last TD with 5 minutes left.  So, a close game that could've gone either way, but the Cobbers couldn't close it out and UWW did.   UWW wins 20-10.

UWW vs. St. Xavier - score is 21-20 when UWW scores with 25 seconds left. So, a one point game until basically the end.  SXU went for it on 4th on their own 31 and failed, giving UWW a very short field to score the winning TD.

UWW down 17-14 in the 4th Q to Lacrosse, scores with 8 minutes left to take the lead and hold on for a 21-17 win.  UWL threw an interception with just under 5 minutes left at the UWW 18 while driving for the winning TD.

So, I'm not taking anything away from the Warhawks, just saying that in 3 of their wins, it was close well into the 4th quarter and he opponents couldn't get the job done, so the Warhawks come away 9-1 instead of 6-4.  A play here, a play there . . . .

So we'll see how it goes Saturday. If Johnnies can get out to that lead, or at least stay close, there's a chance . . . .

You could also say the Warhawks could get the job done when it mattered the most. ;) I would rather give credit to a team rather than say the other team failed.

I think the Johnnies have a chance if they can score early and force UWW to play catch-up.  Also, they'll need to sustain some drives to keep UWW's offense off the field.

I must not be feeling well. I think I've given the appearance of supporting or at least defending St John's over on the WIAC board. I'm disgusted with myself.

I was just thinking that.  You had better lie down for a while.

UWW was also significantly outgained in the St. X game IIRC. Also ancient history at this point in the season.

I realized that I could watch most of the game on Saturday after all, due to the staggered 2pm start, and then I went and got myself all silly.

Don't worry, I still hate the Johnnies, just maybe not as much as I hate dumb and pointless rhetorical arguments (unless done with the right amount of gusto like our friend Rev here).

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Jackson Erdmann is a finalist for the Gagliardi.

Looks like it could come down to him and Broc Rutter.

Johnnie Magic is like po*nography—hard to define but you know it when you see it. It just so happens that most Johnnies are intimately familiar with both...

Can't wait to hear complaints from Mount Union (even though they didn't have a candidate).

Maybe we'll get one last rant about how Fulford was disrespected by D3football.com in the All-American/Gagliardi voting from his defense attorney.

He probably knows Mount Union didn't nominate Fulford (or any offensive skill position player).

I don't think it's giving away too much to say, for QBs, that this is the way it looks right now: Erdmann/Rutter 1/2 in some order, Fulford 3, Hnatkowsky or Smith or Zimbelman or Germinerio 4.

He probably knows...

By he I assume you are talking about the UMU tweeter that complains "of course a Johnnie gets it" every time you tweet anything about the award?  Never mind that a Raider has gotten the award 7 times to SJU's 4.  ::)
