Don't think I've seen it mentioned here or covered elsewhere but it was great to see #10 James Inman be able to play Saturday.

I immediately noticed him on the field (I even texted SJUSection105 because I was very surprised).  It was good to see him playing as a senior and because he's been a strong leader for the defense.

A tradition unrivaled...

I've been traveling abroad for the past week and just got caught up on this board. Congratulations to the Johnnies on a stellar season. Good luck in the future. I'll be rooting for the Tommies and the Johnnies after next year.

Whoa! Rev say it ain't so! Do you think the SJ2ers will take you?

I'm not sure. They are known for being rather incestuous up in Stearns County. Maybe I'll be offered associate fan status.

I'm still not convinced that Rev isn't just TDT's burner account on this site  :o ;D

I was hopeful but skeptical when I saw the notes and looked for him straight away when the broadcast started. He was always a strong presence out there and definitely needed against UWW. You don't see it nearly as much on the webcast, but the one game I saw in person . . .  that's when you could really get the feel for his leadership (and others). Those tight views of game action only tell part of the story. Great player, solid SJU career.

I've got to be honest, once UST is done with the MIAC I'll have even less reason to cheer for SJU. I appreciate that they (sort of) had our side in the whole involuntary removal thing, respect them as a Catholic institution, love some good Benedictines, fully expect that if my son goes to college, he'd chose SJU over UST, etc.

HOWEVER, on the football field, there will be nothing to gain from SJU not being garbage once we aren't in their conference anymore, so I will want nothing but bad things for them. No need for them to make a playoff run so that the MIAC conference or our loss/win to them looks better.

Speaking of UST, does anyone have any ideas on what they are going to do with hockey? Duff?

I suspect hockey will be one of those things that gets left in the moving boxes and never unpacked, kind of like those old textbooks I thought I would use someday but never have and they remain in a box in my attic.

A nice piece of nostalgia to look at when I'm moving other stuff around in the attic, but otherwise it's useless.

I hope you're not right on this one. However, I do have the same box of books ;)  Well, it's go big or go home for hockey, there is no "in between" Although the question was really kind of a jab because I know how much Duff loves this topic  ;D

Hockey and U$T--two of my favorites!  Let's talk about musical theatre, too!

My thoughts are now on next year for my Johnnies. Who takes over as QB? Can the O Line be rebuilt. There are also defensive holes to be filled, .

SJU's history for the past 30 years or so is that QB indecision is not a good thing. 97, early 01, early 04, '11, etc.

Fury noted a handful of years where SJU went through QB changes and indecision. I looked at the preceding season for each of those years to get a sense of how many irreplaceable players the team would need to return. In addition to the seasons Fury noted I also added 2008 and 2016 as those were transition years as well.

GoJohnnies.com had season stats for all of the teams except for 1996.

1996 11-1 (1997 6-4) Because I couldn't find stats I used the MIAC archives to look at conference stat leaders and All-MIAC picks in 1996 to get a general sense of what the 1997 team needed to replace. Ramler is obvious but I can't speak much for any of the other seniors listed.
MIAC Top 10 Stats Leaders
SR QB Ramler, JR Kick Returner Emmerich, SR RB Larson, SO WR Herbst and Buller
Seniors 1st or 2nd All-MIAC Ramler SR QB, Redepenning SR OL, Rondorf SR LB, Deters SR DL, Larson SR RB, Kray SR DL, Ruzanic SR DE, Scheck SR LB, Widmeir SR TE
Underclassmen 1st or 2nd All-MIAC,  Herbst SO WR,  Mushatt JR DB, , Emmerich JR Specialist, Callahan JR OL, Emmerich JR DB,

For all of the stats below I used season stats from GoJohnnies and they reflect stats for the first year listed in each paragraph. And I used my offensive bias to only focus on that side of the ball but it's obvious each of the seasons below had OL and defensive players that also needed to be replaced.

2000 13-2 (2001 11-3)
Even with the early season stumbles in 2001 this was probably one of the better transitions YOY, especially considering it was coming on the heels of a Stagg Bowl appearance.
- Linnemann accounted for 84% of yards and 88% of TDs
- Senior group of Forsell, Kirschner, Krych and Moore accounted for 68% of receptions, 65% of yards and 63% of TDs (throw in that Elliott guy and the % jump to nearly 90% for all statistics)
- SR Moore accounted for 56% of rushing attempts, 78% of net yards and 71% of TDs

2003 14-0 (2004 7-3)
- Senior Keating accounted for 89% of completions and 83% of TDs
- Seniors Elliott, Nelson, Riegelman, along with Junior Thies who left a year of eligibility the next year accounted for 66% receptions, 71% yards and 67% of TDs
- Theis, Nelson and Elliott 65% of attempts, 82% net yards and 66% of TDs

2007 10-2 (2008 8-3)
This was an interesting transition as the 2008 team somehow won the MIAC title as a 2 loss champion.
- Senior Koefoed 83% yards, 91% TDs
- Seniors Weber, Patnode, Blackmore, Pollock, Schnorbrich 66% receptions, 64 yards, 66% TDs
- Seniors Patnode, Blackmore and Schnobrich 66% attempts, 80% net yards, 85% TDs

2010 7-3 (2011 6-4)
Even though the 2010 didn't win the MIAC or make the playoffs they had a big hole to fill at QB though they returned nearly all of the receiving and rushing core in 2011.
- Senior QB Boyle 92% yards, 86% TDs
- Senior TE Overmann 18% receptions and yards, 19% TDs
- No SRs had more than 100 yards total rushing on the season

2015 10-2 (2016 10-2)
Probably the second best YOY transition outside of the season following the 2000 Stagg Bowl. Replacements were needed in the backfield and at WR and new QB would be called upon.
- Seniors Martin & Benson 98% yards, 100% TDs
- Bungum, Simon, Sura and Watercott 74% receptions, 78% yards, 81 TDs
- Sura, Martin and Bungum 72% attempts, 79% net yards, 81% TDs

2019 12-2 (2020 ?-?)
- Senior Erdmann 97% yards, 96% TDs
- Seniors Barber, VanErp and Kemper 20% receptions, 21% yards and 27% TDs
- Senior Barber 30% attempts, 34% net yards, 33% TDs

2020 will see lots returning at the skill positions
- Alston, Hodge, Mohr, Trost, Patrick, Udoboibok 76% receptions, 78% yards, 67% Tds
- Trost, Udoboibok 27% attempts, 34% net yards, 48% TDs

Defensively in 2001, I believe we only returned 2 starters in FS Brad Beyer and OLB/SS Ryan Danielson.  As evidenced by us starting the season 0-2 (with a loss to St. Olaf!), it took us a while to get our feet under us and really sort out who would see the bulk of the reps, but we pulled it together quickly and made it to the semis where we ran into the MUC buzzsaw.

Thanks for reading. You missed their cousin Trost Udoboibok who is a hell of a receiver.
