Awesome, Oz!  I went pike spearing once, and it was a pretty cool experience.

My old man is an obsessive.  He's been on the lake for many winter hours for as long as I can remember.  We always had plenty of fresh northern to eat in the winter.

What lake are you guys on in/near Rapids?

He’s got his house out (normally) on Pokegama on the Cohasset side by Tioga, if you know the area.  I don’t know if he’s got the house there again this year as only my wife and two youngest went back to GR this trip, but it’s a hot spot so it’s likely.

We actually live north of town about six miles while Pokegama is south but when you have a secret spot then there’s no distance that is unreasonable for a fish house.

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I found this over on the OAC Board- it looks like Vince isn't the only Kehres moving on from Mount Union, Larry retiring in June.

I wish them well. We faced quite a challenge when John retired but we've landed on our feet.  For the good of the competition I hope MUC(k) do as well.

I saw this tidbit in the Kehres article:

QuoteThe two members of the Kehres family have lost fewer games (30) than they have coached seasons (34) at the school.

What a legacy!!!

Wow, end of an era! Well, Mount is arguably the best D3 job in the country. I'm sure they'll get an outstanding pool of candidates for that job. I wish the Kehres' well. They have done a lot for Mount Union and D3 football as well.

And to think, y'all could have matched this legacy by hiring Jim as HC and didn't. Shame shame.

Tough living in the shadow of a legend, especially when it's your father. Best of luck to him. Will be very interesting to see who fills the role.

Eric Raeburn would allow them to keep it in the family  ;)

So would Geoff Dartt.

The bigger issue at the moment is the recent academic direction a new academic nerd is taking at Mount.  There's a reason so many long time professors/employees are taking their early retirement packages.  This truly could be the end of not only the Kehres era, but the dominance that has been Mount Union football.  Never mind that 100+ male students come to Mount every year to play football, let's just refocus the university direction to embrace change?

Mount will be very competitive for the next few years due to the Kehres effect, but after that?   ???

Big congratulations to Kehres. Part of me wonders if almost sold himself short though. Leipold got an HC job in the same conference; and has been quite successful. Interesting tidbits Skunks. Do you think that factored into his decision? Will the legend continue as AD?

#2 took a Minnesota rite of passage yesterday.

Very nice, Oz. Love to see the youngsters getting exposed to spearing. I do a lot of hunting and fishing, and spearing is, by far, my favorite.

Is that a 7 tine Vernig she's using?

Raeburn was just named the head coach at Gannon University (Div II school in Pa.) in November.
