It's true the focus has been on St. Scholastica in talks around here but Northwestern has improved a bunch of outdoor facilities in the past five years and would be a decent add from that perspective. Plus, they have won NCAA postseason games in men's basketball and in volleyball (perhaps others, but those come to mind).
Those are the wins unless you count finishing ahead of some teams in the Men's golf tournament.

And AO is already a regular here on the MIAC board, which can be offered as a part of Northwestern's case to the conference

Does either Northwestern or St. Scholastica bring much more to the table than Macalester does?

How about Concordia St Paul?  Other than women's volleyball I don't think they've had much success. Would save them a ton of money on scholarships and travel as the Northern Sun is quite spread out relative to the MIAC.

You're forgetting something ROR. If CSP drops to D3 & joins the MIAC, who will be the natural rival to UST when the NCAA says "thanks for showing up to the meeting but you need to spend 8 years in D2" ???
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Does anybody have a hot take on the just approved D3 regional realignment plan? Football going to 6 regions?

This is actually just one step in the process. The NCAA championships committee will meet on this in February and the management council would then consider it, potentially in April.

Does the MIAC have any plans regarding adding a team to the league for football? Logistically speaking MAC returning makes sense. Logically it would be a nightmare as SJU, GAC, Bethel and Concordia would piss pound them. Maybe the league should expand travel rosters so that teams can travel 5 or 6 deep at all positions. A major problem with that would be travel expenses...how many busses would that require.

Outside of adding a team to the league will there be issues with scheduling a third non-conference game for every team? It's common knowledge that SJU has had difficulty scheduling non-conference games....I mean what middle level or lower D3 team wants to play them?
I'm sure that Bethel, SJU, Concordia and a resurgent GAC could pick up games w/ WIAC teams.
But SJU bringing in Aurora and traveling there the following year will get expensive...I doubt many MIAC schools want to have two trips like that a season.

I'll hang up and listen....
The MIAC is operating under a moratorium to not consider adding members. This came about after the failed effort of St Scholastica to become a member  in 2002 or thereabouts.  As was pointed out by several reputable media reports in the spring (i.e.,  NOT Charley!), there is no desire by league members to lift this moratorium. They've already reduced the conference schedule in women's basketball and supposedly were considering doing likewise in several other sports. The MIAC would not accept am "associate" member in only one sport or some sports, so schools will have to find a non-conference football game to replace UST on their schedules or simply play 9 (or 8...or 7) games a la Linfield.

As far as Concordia-STP goes-- they applied for membership before moving to Division II and were soundly rejected, so I can't imagine they would be open to joining the MIAC should they ever decide that they want to join DIII. Dropping down to the MIAC might make sense for them in football but not in any other sport.

Here's an off topic question. When you zoom in moderately on the Twin Cities using Google Maps, Minneapolis and St. Paul are highlighted; at the next level down in magnification, Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Minnetonka are highlighted; then Minneapolis, St. Paul, Minnetonka, and Bloomington are highlighted at next level down in magnification. I always thought of Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Bloomington as forming the "Tri-Metro Area." What makes Minnetonka so special (at least according to Google Maps)?

The Bengals recap of the Senior Bowl's first day of practice.  Bartch get a glowing mention.

And a lot of Bartch highlights in this clip.  No commentary.  For this session at least it looked like Bartch was in the starting lineup for the South team.

And a few run blocking highlights here.  Flags all over the place but it looked like Bartch played clean.
