The average price of a Vikings ticket last year was $190. I wonder at what discount from that this game will run?  Half?  I imagine the stadium will give SJU a fixed, guaranteed payout and then handle the pricing themselves as SJU people would have no way to judge pricing elasticity in these circumstances.

Well, it will be an utter sea of red. That will be impressive.

Look, if this game finances an improvement in the video broadcast then I can swallow my pride and ride on the money train.

My biggest regret is that we forever lose the argument that the Tommies are greedy money gougers who exploit the Johnnie Army for crass, financial gain. Obviously, the Tommies are and will forever remain empty, soulless voids but this nice argument has been destroyed forever. Although it is pleasing to think that the biggest game, likely the biggest two or maybe even more games, the Tommies ever play will be back against a pissy little D3 school.  The fact that 25 years from now when fresh Tommie recruits are considering the school and looking at the 1500 average attendance with a wistful look on their face when they wonder what it was like back in the old days against the Johnnies will be so, so pleasing.

25 years from now the Tommies will still be selling out US Bank Stadium (their shared home with the MN Vikings) Only it will be against the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and their new in-state rival the Gophers! Maybe SJ2 can pack the natural bowl and sort of continue the rivalry with an annual game against the UST freshmen  ;D

Dude...you should know better than smoking weed or taking drugs when you live across the street from an elementary school. Whatever you're on can't be legal!!! Just don't expose the kids to it. :D

I don't think he was on drugs to come to that conclusion... I think it was a batch of Johnnie Kool-Aid that had gone past its expiration date. It's no more outlandish than some of the comments on here from the Red Smokefest over the year  :)

As they say in Aus (from the all time classic movie The Castle which I highly recommend everyone watch to get the best dose of dry Australian humor ever recorded):

Tell him he's dreaming.

(Also, I've teed one up for the Rev and he's failed to deliver.  Very disappointing.)

If it were me, I'd put the new/big scoreboard on the other side. I don't think it's a good idea to obscure the view of the chapel.

The solution for this and for many of the world's other problems is for all you Johnnies to encourage your sons to go be Benedictine monks at SJU, and then overrule the current monks to get a big video board (as well as doing other good things and praying for the world too).

OzJohnnie

Leave the old school scoreboard for nostalgia's sake and introduce an app that will let you use a phone or touchpad over the local network to interact with the video feed and stats.

The computer science students could whip it up as a class project.

I don't think the monks have the same power they did 10 years ago when the university and the monastery legally split.

There's less than 100 left and in the 5-10 years that number will probably be under 30.

I hate to think it, but you're right.

There will come a day where the monastery will close or be consolidated with another and monks at St. John's will be a memory.

When I was a student the monastery had about 300 monks and there were 80 clerics studying to be monks. At that time 54 professors were monks and 19 (including the coaches) were lay people.
Maybe somebody can tell me what the ratio is now.

Yeah, like faunch said, under 100 monks now. I would be willing to venture that over half of the remaining monks are over the age of 70. I'm pretty sure I can count the monks under the age of 40 on one hand (Fr. Nick, Br. Lew, Br. Michael, and maybe one other one that I'm not aware of). I'm not aware of any novices or others who are in the process of formation, but I haven't checked in a long time.
