Mr.MIAC

So anymore thoughts on who will become SJ2's rival. I'm surprised the Smokefest isn't all over this topic.

So we can all agree that the Tommie/Johnnie rivalry is something special. There's been plenty of talk about who might become Tommie rivals in D1. However, there hasn't been as much talk about who the Johnnies' primary rival in the MIAC might be going forward. Bethel makes sense for football, but maybe not across a broader range of sports. Thoughts?

Who has speculated on whom the tommies may acquire as a rival?

Who cares?

About 40% of the regular posters here?

I highly doubt it

That must have been a long ride by horse and buggy!  :o
Since we weren't 'legally' allowed to have cars on campus it was a long way.
My home was 180 miles from school and I hitchhiked back and forth a couple times a year.

I wonder if Stanbob was rejected by UST, lost a job to a Tommie, or lost a girl to a Tommie. Maybe all three...the hatred runs deep.

Never applied to CST, never lost a job in my life, who loses a girl to a tommie?  Your putridness runs far deeper...

MUC57,
The Press was a watering hole in St. Cloud (near SJU).  It burned to the ground yesterday.

The Press Bar and Parlor a Total Loss
When I was a student, the favorite Johnnie place in St. Cloud was the Modern Bar, I think on St. Germain. It also burned down maybe in the '90s.

I was a bit of a metal head back in the day, despite my pretty-boy looks and good-guy charm.  The Red Carpet in downtown St Cloud had some hard-rocking cover bands pass through there.  Grungy, dirty, unhealthy.  The Red Carpet had it all.

Ah yes The Red Carpet; been there done that, got the t shirt. The kind of place where you wipe your feet before leaving the bar.....

Speaking of red carpets, some here might enjoy this arrangement: https://www.facebook.com/MusicBustedShow/videos/614717812428425/

Ha!  You crazy Protestants do the darndest things in church.

(The Black Album was a pop sell out.  I was arguing this exact topic with a mate at the pub just last week.  And Justice For All was the last metal album from Metallica.  Old head bangers never die; they just take more Tylenol.)

Apparently it's been a while for some folks going to the Red Carpet. They have a martini bar now, c'mon!

And Justice For All iwas/is amazing, can't beat One as a single but the whole album is amazing. Actually vilified some kids in HS for their AJFA shirts.  :-X

It must be a day of mourning up in Collegeville. If the downtown St. Cloud bars disappear, where will the Johnnies go to discreetly hookup with random SCSU girls deemed wholly unsuitable for bringing home to meet mom and dad?

Oh, I’m sure there’s a Tommie coed or two on street corner duty. If they can scrape a few bucks together then the Johnnies will be fine.

The last time I was at the Red Carpet (it's been 10-12 years, but the martini bar was in existence), I witnessed a dude smash a beer bottle on  a bouncer's head as we were leaving.  It did not end well for that fellow!  :o

My deepest sympathy to all you Johnnies on the loss of some of your favorite watering holes. It must have felt like part of you died.

But do the pubs really cease to exist? Don't they live forever in our hearts? Can we not still smell the beer we spilled on our shirts?  Can't we still hea the voices of the coeds, or whoever , resonating in the stillness of the night? Don't you recall the next morning when school didn't seem to really matter? Yes, Virginia, there really were places of happiness, forgetfulness and, oh yes, regret!
And they live on today, in a different place, with a different name.l
As long as all of us are still here, THEY will be here.
I close by saying, simply, "Noroc". That's the way it's said in Romanian. You may say "Skoal", "Salud", "Prost", many other ways or, just simply, "Cheers.".
