NCAA just announced no fans at March Madness!

I bet refunds for the Johnnie/Tommie basketball game are sent out and it ends up limited to just athletes, staff and parents.  The liability is too high if they pack that gym and someone has CV.  Bummer.  I don't even like watching basketball but I was going to enjoy watching that one with the atmosphere.

Penn State, where #1 is on exchange for a semester and currently spring breaking in New York City, has just closed campus and told all students to return home.  All classes will be online.  We don't know what that means for #1 yet and whether she has to fly back to Aus or if they will give her accomodation to finish the semester at PSU.  But it looks like everything is going maximum "social distancing".  I bet the MIAC soon does the same.

CSB/SJU has spring break last week. Is it reasonable to think that a student, faculty or staff came in contact w the virus last week especially those that traveled around the country or abroad?

Probably would be my guess.  But from the sounds of it a student would just think it's a post party cold from hitting the nightlife too hard.  I don't think it's the students so much but the community which has the larger concern.  Student gatherings are bacteria fraps with all those people jammed in close together breathing on each other.  They'll bring it home to the family for sure so better to keep the students apart is the thinking, I suspect.

No fans for the SJU-UST basketball game on Saturday.

Minneapolis is hosting the D1 wrestling championships in a week and a half.  The city's gonna take a big hit as that was bringing in a lot of folks.

Wow. The US just suspended all travel from Europe except from the UK. Yowzers. #1 may have trouble getting home the way this is going. She may be hanging out up in Grand Rapids for a while. Talk about getting introduced to cabin fever. It may drive her over the edge.

In positive news, China is already turning back on and is expected to hit full speed again in April.  So it will sick for a while but it looks like it may only be a two month or so shock. And maybe because it is getting to our countries later we'll get over the shock faster.  Fingers crossed, anyways.

I'm even better news, this will surely be washed over by the time of the Johnnie-Tommie football game and I may be able to buy airline tickets for almost free if I keep my eyes open for a deal.

Mr.MIAC

I'm surprised Johnnies aren't ecstatic over the coronavirus. They've been calling for an end to handholding at UST games for years now.

I'm not so optimistic...my bet is that China's infection numbers pop up again. Watch this: https://youtu.be/E3URhJx0NSw

Which Tommie has been padding your karma daily to get it in such good shape and how much did you have to pay them?

I honestly have no idea. I'm not sure it's a good thing. I like playing the baddie.

A former co-worker has a son that's a surgical resident at Yale. He called his parents (they are in their 60's) and told them that this virus is the real deal and not to be taken lightly. He told them that they need to stay home and limit their contact w/ others and do not travel. They told him that they're suppose to babysit some of the grandchildren here in MN and he told him that they definitely should not be doing that. He also contacted the rest of the family and told them to stay home......

so there's that!

Carleton has canceled all spring sports:

Even frisbee golf?

This is something. The Knights are a punchline in some sports but their men's and women's track and cross country programs are very good, with some really outstanding athletes.

What I find strange is they are still letting their track athletes compete at the NCAA indoor meet this weekend. If you feel the need to suspend activity wouldn't you start it immediately?

The growth curve we are on right now is incredibly scary. It mirrors Italy's curve, just 10 days in the rears. I don't know if we can get ahead of it now. We also have a slightly lower threshold of hospitals beds per 1,000 population. US is 2.8, Italy is 3.2.
