Carleton has canceled all spring sports:

Even frisbee golf?

This is something. The Knights are a punchline in some sports but their men's and women's track and cross country programs are very good, with some really outstanding athletes.

What I find strange is they are still letting their track athletes compete at the NCAA indoor meet this weekend. If you feel the need to suspend activity wouldn't you start it immediately?

They had a runner that was favorite in the 3K and 5K this year.  Won't matter now, looks like the NCAA is canceling all remaining championships.

Well, unless they settle on this is really bad for old folks and the vulnerable but pretty much a regular bug for the rest of us kind of quickly then things will get a bit desperate.  Italy has the oldest population in Europe and the second oldest in the world (after Japan, which is locked up tighter than a frog's butt) so it's like a Petri dish specially designed for this bug.

I know we have a few older people on these boards and I encourage you to make sure you do smart social distancing for the next few months.  MUC57, it's time to start washing your hands for goodness sake.

In more optimistic news, human trials of vaccines have started in China, another specially designed Petri dish.  I think attention will be very focussed.

Fred Falcon and I are older than that relative youngster.  ;D

Near me there are 9 cases in Pitkin County (Aspen) all  visitors from OZ. High altitude also makes it tough on people not used to it.

Visitors from Oz?  Dang. I hope we're not next on the travel hit list. I'm just glad that everyone (bar the missus) is a dual citizen. We'll be able to get around these travel bans.

As for you and the wife, stay home and watch a lot of Netflix.

Some F1 teams have headed out of melbourne ahead of next weekend's Grand Prix. Looks like that will be cancelled as well. I would head out as well if I could as I would hate to get stuck behind a travel ban and unable to move.  I'm not too worried about the bug itself but the efforts to slow it spreading and the impact on the health system are so draconian that I wouldn't want to be far from home too often for fear of getting stranded.

UO has announced winter term finals will all be online and the first three weeks of spring term will also be online only. They are keeping the residence halls open over spring break and for spring term and are discouraging students from traveling. I appreciate that (at least for now) they are doing this because not all students have a place to go. This is especially true for our international students. I heard that when Harvard made the decision to to to online classes, they gave the students 5 days to get out.

I am bummed about March Madness being canceled. Both the men's and women's Duck Basketball teams were having stellar years! We "could'a been a contender!!"

I suspect the visitors from Oz went to ski so are probably fairly young and will be OK. We are planning on staying home for sure. This is kind of retirement community but I know several older people who had planned cruises. Most are very happy that they can cancel or postpone them. I'm old enough to know I'm not in charge.  :)

Penn State went online until at least April 3 yesterday.  They sent out an email to all students, currently on spring break, saying don't come back.  Go home and log into your coursework on Monday.  A few dorms have been set aside for international students, like my daughter, to finish their semester.  Fortunately her dorm is one of them so it looks like she'll be able to stay put in her current room.  She's pretty bummed as there were some big parties planned on campus in the next few weeks.  Priorities.

Noooooo... They are considering delaying the start of the AFL season by at least a month.  I had hoped they would play in empty stadiums but it looks like they will delay playing as well.

If he has even three working brain cells left, he wouldn't dare!  After all, he has often said Covid 19 will go 'poof' once warm weather arrives, and someone in the WH might be brave enough to tell him that in Oz it IS summer. :o
