Man did SJU start out playing tight in this game!

We had extra point issues in this game too and played they first half on our heals a bit.

Rigelman had a couple big catches in that second quarter.

In some CV news:

* There are 44 vaccine programs underway around the world, 2 of which have already entered clinical trials.  Knock on wood one or more of these comes off.

* The US is re-opening hospitals in the big cities.  And creating temporary hospitals as well (NYC is converting the exhibition center into a 1000 bed hospital and Seattle has converted two soccer fields in to mobile hospitals.  Best use of those bits of turf ever.)
* Across the country 155 rural hospitals have been closed since 2005 and local authorities are working to re-open them where useful.

* 3M doing its part (go Minnesota).  They have ramped up mask production and are now making 100 million a month globally, 35 million a month in the US.
* Chrysler is converting a manufacturing plant and will soon be producing 1 million masks a month.

* The FDA is working to convert sleep apnea breathing masks into low-level ventilators to help with at home patients.

* Around the world there are 49 treatment trials underway with patients recruited.  Another 40 are recruiting patients and eager to start.

Fingers crossed.  The world (and the USA) is getting mobilised.  I'm optimistic.  I reckon we'll beat this down.

You forgot Ford is using stock parts from F-150 pick up to make ventilators. Ford is also making protective face shields.

It looks like Sweden is also going the herd immunity approach like the Netherlands.  So there will be a couple alternate experiments.

Hmm... a professor of epidemiology at Oxford has released a study today that contradicts the one from the Imperial College that caused Britain to reverse course and shut down last week (no groups larger than two people are now allowed in the UK).  It's very interesting operating at such speed with such little good information.

(The Financial Times has the full interview but it's behind a paywall)

The coronavirus could have infected as much as half of the population of the United Kingdom, according to researchers at the University of Oxford - as the official death toll jumps a record 87 in one day to 422 and confirmed cases leap by 1,427.

The new model from Oxford University suggests the virus was circulating in the UK by mid-January, around two weeks before the first reported case and a month before the first reported death.

This means it could have had enough time to have spread widely, with many Britons acquiring immunity. Sunetra Gupta, a professor of theoretical epidemiology who led the study, said testing was needed to assess the theory.

‘We need immediately to begin large-scale serological surveys – antibody testing – to assess what stage of the epidemic we are in now,’ she said.

The Oxford university research offers a contrasting view on the disease to the study that is informing government policy. It was carried out by experts at Imperial College London.

‘I am surprised that there has been such unqualified acceptance of the Imperial model,’ Professor Gupta told the Financial Times.

The Imperial study has led to the Government imposing the extraordinary shutdown on the basis that, without such rules, the disease could claim up to 250,000 lives.

EDIT: After digging around a little more I have found that Oxford in cooperation with Cambridge and Kent universities are going to start testing a random sample of UK citizens with a blood test that Cambridge has developed to see who has recently had COVID-19 and who hasn't.  So I guess we'll know if this idea is correct or not in a few weeks.

What I'm reading is that they are self-isolating separately, but not sure the distinction is significant. They can each have a wing or two of the estate to themselves.

Makes me wonder if I had the flu or COVID-19 back in January...my guess is the flu but who knows. Allegedly the flu season was really bad and there were people tested that were negative for influenza. If there were an antibody test developed I'd go along w/ being tested.

Welcome to the world of medicine, Oz.  You can consistently find published research studies (regardless of short or long term) on the same subject/same populations that come up with exactly total opposite findings and conclusions.  The frustration (and problem) then results in the erroneous "guidelines" that are often rushed into effect by the powers that be.  Frustrating, not to say dangerous, however, that is how it always has been, unfortunately.  That is not to say that there are not good, dedicated people involved in studies trying to "get it right" and do the right thing.  Yet, the fact is, for years, there has been some very sloppy studies and overview of those in the field, just like there has been in other non-medical fields/professions.  At the same time, as you mention, things can change on a daily/weekly basis, as in this current coronavirus situation.

All that said, I am hopeful and confident that over the next month or two, the situation will trend to becoming stable.  I am sad,  as we all are, for the families who have had to face the loss of a loved one in this crisis, but we remain hopeful the dedicated people in medicine will find the right treatment for this.  We all have to Keep the Faith in that and everyone, stay safe as best you can.
