Damned noisy cockatoos.  They squawk with a head splitting screech.  I spotted this one sitting in a big gum tree on the morning dog walk screaming like it insisted everyone listen.  It's a jungle out there.

A dad from our high school hunting and fishing trips was a former football baseball guy at St. Cloud State, which might have still but "Teachers College" in the '50s. He said Duke Ellington played a gig there. My mom, who taught for a few years in a Michigan private school when she was just out of college, said Bill Haley and the Comets played a sock-hop.

Me? The first concert at Warner was the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with a kid named Steve Martin making balloon objects as a warmup. Canned Heat also played Rat Hall with newcomer REO Speedwagon.

Those are two winners.  I would have loved to see those same lineups.  Trounces Weird Al something fierce.

Kirby Puckett was and will always be the Man.

#'s 2 and 3 were trying to get Mrs Oz and I to agree to a new border collie pup that could join our five-year-old border collie as a friend during stay-at-home (of course dogs have a had absolutely zero disruption, in fact they are getting better conditions with more walks and 24x7 family time).  Their arm twist for me was to name the dog Kirby, which has been my target dog name since forever.  Couldn't get the other half over the line, though.

I know my folks saw Neil Diamond at SJU in the early 70s.  I'd still love to see Neil in concert!

Soooo, letting my hair down...

First concert, summer of my 16th year of age, America in Toronto at the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) - opening band was The Captain and Tennille - very memorable night as a 16 year old.
Along the way, and not necessarily in order:
Rush - forget the opening band
Foreigner, opening band UFO
Alice Cooper
Chicago
Head East
Electric Light Orchestra - another CNE concert excursion - year 17
Molly Hatchet
Ted Nugent
Chuck Mangione
Billy Joel
Last "rock" concert I went to was Super Tramp, The Breakfast in America Tour.
All before coming to BU to play football.
One regret is not seeing Pink Floyd here in MN for The Wall tour. Another is never having a good chance to see Led Zeppelin.
Yeah, I was a rocker, but I also enjoyed great orchestration in ELO and loved brass like Chicago and Chuck Mangione. Loved the album A Night at the Opera by Queen - but never had a chance to see them either. I couldn't get out of a work shift, so I missed out on The Cars, also. Never saw The Rolling Stones either.

Yes, I have mellowed out as I have aged, but I still enjoy the album "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd - "Oh, by the way, which one's Pink?" - one of the best lines ever recorded, IMHO. Even though "Dark Side of the Moon" has sold more copies (than just about any album of any kind), it doesn't have quite the edge in the lyrics that "Wish You Were Here" did/does.

Current musicians I enjoy are Switchfoot and Crowder (David).

My wife's cousin shared this with me a couple of weeks back - some of you might enjoy the video/music/lyrics - kind of a catchy tune. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9FzVhw8_bY&list=RDB9FzVhw8_bY&start_radio=1

We all have musical tastes, and I like to think I have an open mind concerning most of them - just don't share any disco music with me.  ;D

Edit - forgot concerts by Boston and Bob Seger.

The Dead South are very good listening.  I enjoy those guys a lot.  Old Crow Medicine Show is another recent winner.  Rocked up country.

And maybe this will help you get over missing Queen, art.

We finally have a live sports event this week! The NFL Draft will be fun to watch after nothing but classic this and classic that and virtual everything else.  :P

I'm not sure why exactly, but I "enjoy" watching classic boxing, and the "tape-delayed" auto racing shows, much more than old "ball sports".  But definitely looking forward to the draft.

I'm looking forward to the draft also especially since I can't find any reruns of Roller Derby.  :)

I'm planning to watch some classic games with my son as a fill in for no live sports, but also a chance to educate him on the greats of my childhood.

On the List:
1991 WS Game 7 - Twins history
1971 OU vs NU, 1983, 1994, 1995 Orange Bowl, 1996 Fiesta Bowl - Husker history (heartache and triumph)
1993 NBA Finals, Game 4 - Jordan at the peak of his powers (not as savvy as the latter 3 peat, but still with the otherworldly explosiveness)
1992 NCAA Tourney Championship - Laettner's Shot
1987 NBA Finals Game 4 - Bird v. Johnson
Barry Sanders Highlight compilation
Super Bowl XXIII - 49ers vs. Bengals
1998 NFC Championship Game - Vikings peak brutality
....

Feel free to throw out some classics, the only caveat being it's got to be available on YouTube and not be too brutal in the video quality category.

I realize that I'm an oddball, but I have really not missed live sports at all (aside from the cancellation of the NCAA wrestling tourney).  Come September, that would change, but I really don't spend time watching sports outside of college football and wrestling.

Yeah, I'm not a baseball or hockey guy, so those have gone un-noticed for me.  NCAA basketball was a huge bummer to lose, as a fan.  I don't really pay attention to the NBA during the regular season, but typically watched a fair amount of the playoffs, so that is noted as lacking also.

That first week week when everything cancelled seemed so surreal at the time.  Now that we've been living the quarantine life, it seems crazy to think of having large groups of people gathering in an arena or stadium.
