I can't believe I just watched game 6 of the 1968 World Series. The Mets won it in the 10th inning on Buckner's error.
Let's please get "real" sports back on TV.
Have to go now. At 7:00, I'm going to watch Mount Union play Trinity (TX) in the 1998 NCAA semifinal game at Mount. Hope the Raiders can win it (they do - they go on to win the Stagg Bowl)!
I have even watched old SJU/STU games.
I CAN watch soccer, but not as much fun. I know very little Spanish.
Oh well. Just the ramblings of an old guy with not much to do.
Everyone stay safe and stay well!   ⚽️

Friday night, June 12, the Hawks take on the Cats as the AFL resumes, MUC57.  That's around noon on thursday the 11th your time.  Not long now.

EDIT:  They have been back in training a few weeks now but there is a whole lot of elite cardio fitness lost from the two-month break immediately after the pre-season.  We're going to have about a month of guys really sucking wind and having trouble running out a game.

MUC57, in line with your sign-off you have gotten confused (or maybe just transposed a couple of digits ;)).  Buckner's error was in 1986, not 1968 - the Tigers won the 1968 World Series.  Poor Bill Buckner received vastly more abuse than was warranted; he did NOT lose the Series for the Red Sox!  #1, that only let in the tying run, not the winning run.  #2, that was game six, not game seven.  #3, he was so banged up that his manager admitted he should have removed him for a defensive replacement at least an inning earlier.

Bill Buckner, who died just a year and three days ago at only 69 years of age, may have been the most unfairly and viciously maligned player ever.  It (understandably, IMO) took many years, but he did finally forgive Bostonians and return to Fenway and received a respectful ovation

Something doesn't make sense. The game I watched was game 6. The Mets were down 2 runs into the bottom of the 10th inning. They scored 2 runs to tie it up. Then, with 2 outs, a ground ball went through the 1st baseman's (Buckner?) legs. A run scored to win it for the Mets. That forced a game 7 with the Red Sox.
But, yes, I am old, get mixed..........! Oh hell, see below. 😷 🍺

You're right (damn MY elderly memory! ::))

Buckner's error DID let in the winning run.  But, contrary to what most people think they remember, the Red Sox would not have won except for his error - they just would have still been tied.  And with his banged up body, why was he still in the game?  In games 1, 2 and 5, a defensive replacement had already replaced him - this was the TENTH inning.  IMO, the blame goes more to the manager than to Buckner.

And he certainly can't be blamed for losing game seven, where he had no errors and batted 2 for 4.

Dang.  I wish good fortune to all the posters and lurkers here who are in the MPLS area.  It's going to be a long week from the sounds of it.  More people are on their way.  Minneapolis of all places.

Mankato State says in person classes are the plan. Plus CSB/SJU.

So from the MIAC's 14 schools we have five with a position. 4 going for in person classes and one considering a range of options.

Got your plane tickets yet?  :)
Also Woohoo! Our restaurants are open so Mrs. & I went to the Horsefly Brewing Co.
Fan Damn Tastic!

Going out to eat. So nice. Happens here in two days. We've already booked a restaurant for #2's 18th birthday dinner on June 18th. The liberation feel fan-*******-tastic.

I'll get tickets the moment they announce the season is on and fans can attend. Qantas has shut down international flights and in fact only United is still flying between the US and Australia with a single daily flight.  It's lucky I became a dual citizen two years ago as the Australian government has said they won't be allowing non-citizens to enter until Dec 15th and the have put permanent residency renewals on hold so if a residency has expired or is about to then you can't leave the country as you may be able to get back in.
Woohoo: Our rec center re opens tomorrow 6/2.  :)
The down side is that opening time in the morning is not until 6AM.

I kept my fingers crossed for ya last night for Minneapolis. I guess it didn't help. 😔

Below are links to some pictures I took over the weekend in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The fist album is from a bike ride on Saturday morning over to the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis.

This album has pictures from Saturday and Sunday afternoon around St. Paul (Highland Park, Mac-Groveland, and West 7th Street). It's so eerie to have so many building boarded up.
Our neighborhood had been fortunate and has had minimal looting or damage. That doesn't mean we're not on edge in our  seemingly idyllic part of the Twin Cities. Lots of reports of vehicles without plates racing around and residents finding plastic bottles filled with gasoline or accelerant. Most of the gas stations are shutting off their pumps and you can't find a tank of propane for sale anywhere in the neighborhood. There's no indication when the curfew will be lifted or when the National Guard will be sent home. My concern is that once it's lifted there might be more incidents and that business owners might take protecting property into their own hands.

Stay safe. Birmingham AL is not far behind after last night's failed attempt at toppling a 50 foot tall granite Confederate Monument turned violent. Damn state should have moved the thing years ago instead of wasting untold taxpayer dollars on lawsuits to keep it in place looming over primarily African American communities. I don't fault the people wanting to tear it down. I do fault them for a completely idiotic execution of the attempt that had 0 chance of succeeding and then going on a rampage to take out their frustrations elsewhere.

I hope everyone stays safe. It's quite a world these days.

Wow! You guys are seeing this stuff first hand. I only see it on the TV news.
When the rioters (thugs) burn cars, break windows, throw objects at the police and loot stores, what are they protesting? Am I missing something here?
I have my own thoughts on all these protests (riots). I better keep them to my self.
Faunch - appreciate the pictures, really shows the reality of the situation. Thanks.
You guys stay safe. If the rioters go home, we'll all stay safe! 😔

In regards to the first bolded part, this gets into the philosophical and/or the political, which this is not the place to discuss. Psychologically though, mob mentality is a well known and explored condition. It is, essentially, the mentality of a group gravitating to the most base emotion of the least or loudest member. You know the phrase "one bad apple spoils the barrel"? Mob mentality is the constant reminder of the power of that sad state in humanity.

As for the second bolded part, most likely true for the vast majority of Americans. Not so true for the constant trickle of Black Americans like George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and hundreds upon hundreds more.

I don't want to debate political or social forces that are behind this on this page...I've got other outlets for that. What I am amazed by is that there hasn't been much loss of life directly connected to these protests and riots.
My biggest concern going forward is about happens after the trial of the former officer(s). If they get a light sentence or walk the chaos and destruction witnessed this week may only be an appetizer to the main course.

The peaceful protesters and the rioters/arsonists are 2 different groups. I am watching this closely and all over North and South Minneapolis there is a lot of evidence of highly organized groups that have arrived to riot and cause unrest. I have spent many years of my life in Minneapolis including my years at Augsburg which is close to ground zero.

I do not like at all what these non - peaceful types have done to my city but for sure the violent characters are not here to protest, they are here as opportunists to spread hate and take advantage of a painful situation.

Another thing I've reflected on over the last few days is how compliant and obedient most of our society is on a day to day basis.
I think these riots and the destruction are so shocking because the majority...(probably and thankfully about 98-99% of people) would never engage in such unruly behavior.
Personally I'm a rule follower and just don't want to get in trouble and frankly fearful of injury or death.

1. I expect U$T fans to snatch out a lot of this march!!!  :o ;D ::)
2. Why would I order this if I can't get my school's logo embroidered on the product?
3. My opinion...they're not going to sell much of this.
