Saw this as well. A really interesting article. Johnny seems to have been railroaded. Thankfully the family was able to find a very good attorney in Joe Friedberg.

Poor judgment on his part being in a locker room by yourself with a kid. That's something you learn quite early on in your career, but nothing nefarious. It's an incredibly difficult time to be a HS coach, with parents undermining them every step of the way.

All over a starting position / playing time too...what a shame.  Great lesson taught by those parents on how to handle adversity when things don't go your way.   

Hopefully he can catch on coaching somewhere else and re-write his legacy.

Brutal story. Those parents destroyed a man's career and reputation over playing time. Here's to hoping Benson lands both a teaching and coaching gig soon, and that he is able to find great success in both.

Which reminds me that a few months ago, I was reading through the posts here from 10+ years ago. I'm pretty sure AO predicted that the UMAC would be occasionally competitive with the MIAC by this time. How'd that work out?

A reliable source informed me that the MIAC will play only conference games this fall..... still undecided about the full football season (sounds like there have been some heated discussions)

Truly a raw deal by Kimball High, altho in fairness, the Admin was kind of railroaded into suspending Benson by parents and trapped by policy of suspension once accused.  Sounds like the kid was twisted into accusing his coach("I guess it maybe mighta coulda happened, i dunno"). I would love to see him get reinstated and continue to turn the Cubs into a strong contender. They've been horse**** for way too long!
