All sorts of things that will happen in the spring are merely hopes/conjectures/wishes at this point. We won't know what's possible until we get into 2021 and see what the state of the pandemic is.

Not surprised in the least.  From the Star Tribune:
QuoteThe Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference plans to postpone competition in several fall sports until the spring, sources told the Star Tribune on Friday.

Some coaches and athletes have been told that football, volleyball and soccer are among the sports that will switched from this fall to the spring if the NCAA and public health officials allows it. Golf and tennis are likely to be played this fall.

MIAC Commissioner Dan McKane did not confirm the changes. He said via e-mail Friday that the league is "working through all details'' of a fall sports plan and will announce its decision Tuesday afternoon.

Several Division III leagues have announced the postponement or cancellation of fall sports in recent weeks as COVID-19 continues to spread. Last Tuesday, the NCAA Division III Management Council recommended the cancellation of all fall sports championships. The NCAA's Board of Governors met Friday to consider that recommendation in all divisions, but it put off that decision until next month.

Last week, the MIAC canceled nonconference competition in fall sports. Carleton, one league member, announced July 10 it would cancel all fall sports. Carleton also is postponing competition in winter and spring sports until after the fall academic term.

Uncertainty abounds as college teams scramble to find games
The D-3 Management Council approved a proposal this week to allow schools and conferences to move or extend fall sports practices and competition into the spring.

Under the proposal, playing seasons would be defined by the number of days, not weeks, and those days would not have to be in consecutive weeks.

"Flexibility will be imperative,'' Management Council chair Heather Benning said in a statement. "These are unprecedented times."

Reusse said on the radio today MIAC football will play a five game schedule next spring. I assume that means SJU will play everyone in their new Northwoods division plus the conference championship/crossover week? Anyone else heard anything about that?

I don't see how the divisions would have any bearing on spring games. The divisions include Mac and Scholastica and don't include UST, so they are worthless for this season.

You can be sure UST and SJU will play each other, if any games are scheduled and actually happen.

Going to be a mess though.

My best guess is that we saw our last Johnnie/Tommie Football game. UST's fall sports will be preparing for the 2021 seasons in their new respective leagues during the spring of 2021. I'm guessing the UST's fall sports teams will be allowed a full non-traditional (Spring) season as allowed at the D1 level and within their respective conference rules. Just my guess (no inside info. yet)

From Thomas Boswell of the Washington Post. I expected this to happen. One of the reasons I have been so pessimistic about football season.

If they have a chance to play a few games to supplement the spring practice schedule, I don't see why they wouldn't. Give a better idea what the depth looks like as I suspect these games will be like glorified scrimmages in many cases.

It's possible but, only if the Pioneer Conference would allow them to play games. Also, how would that effect red shirting? The only scenario I see possible is if they could get some sort of waiver to play SJU as their spring game as opposed to a purple/gray game. It's a long shot though.

Wasn't really considering that Pioneer League would have impact on spring ball before the fall where we officially join D1, but that's a possibility.

I can almost assure you that as of January 1st, 2021, all fall sports at UST will be bound to the rules and regulations of the Summit League and the Pioneer League for their respective sports that will participate in those leagues for fall semester 2021.

From what I've heard the assumption is that this limited Spring season wouldn't burn eligibility. So play some games, get some practices in, get guys reps, not lose key upper classman players for hte fall.

Time for a little uncharacteristic optimism  :P ;D

Seeing reports that the flu season in the southern hemisphere has been greatly suppressed. While the flu is contagious, it's likely less so than the 'rona so measures to limit the spread of 'rona seem to be having a strong impact on the flu. Hopefully that can carry through to our flu season when our beloved little germ vectors are back in school.

If any of you had the chance to view the public medical press conference held yesterday near the nation's capital by several leading physicians who have been in the thick of treating covid patients, you would have heard eye-opening information. The risk and actual percentage of young children in schools for transmitting covid is essentially nil. But not so in the college age, young adult and older adult populations. Also, these specialists have been treating hospitalized patients with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin and zinc and have not lost one patient over 350 in one situation in Houston and rhose were all elderly patients with covid comorbidity risk factors AND no drug complications from hydroxy ( the correct doses were used AND this is being used for prophylaxis in front line responders/providers.)
Having a daughter who is an elementary teacher, the info regarding the school children made me feel better about their opening safely of schools, with the safety prevautions of course. I'm not so sure, however, about the other info since our youngest daughter works at Hope-am a little apprehensive.
If you get a chance to view the physician press conference from yesterday, I would recommend it. Very infirmationak- the truth for once instead of the misinfirmation and simply wrong and dishonest info that has been spewed from some media outlets.

I would be careful with that one formerd3db. Simone Gold MD, the ringleader, has done a number of videos outside Cedar Sinai, leading people to believe she is a physician there. Cedar has said they have no record of her employment and the state of California doesn't have her practicing anywhere in the last 3 years, even though she claimed to be treating COVID victims in an inner city LA hospital. She is an active member of the House Freedom Caucus as well.

The physician touting HCQ can be seen in a bizarre ministry video https://twitter.com/cineaste_c/status/1287966476876435456?s=21 .
She qualifies herself as a deliverance minister and has a cash pay clinic setup in her ministry. She has made threatening videos online asking for Dr Fauci's urine samples.

There is a lot of misinformation on both sides, and this appears to be another form of it, with disingenuous physicians that aren't actually practicing on the frontlines, with funding from extremist groups.
