Sagatag- I would have bet in favor of your prediction for all the reasons you stated.
This is just nuts now.
Full disclosure- I'm no scientist, doctor or politician, but I work in the nursing home industry.

I do stand by my comment that it is abundantly clear the vanishingly small risk for anyone who is not over the age of 75 and those already in poor health. I think that's even clearer today than it was in May. The wreckage that we've created as a result of lockdowns won't be fully known for several years, but I fear hope that when we do take a sober look at 2020 years from now, we will hang our heads in shame and wonder "what the hell were we thinking?"

Standing with you on this 100% (with the one minor change I made in your comment)!

It is nuts. And I don't buy for one second that this is purely a matter of science or "following the science" anymore--maybe back in March or early April it was. Now politicians have dug their grubby, disgusting fingers into the matter, and their consultants and campaign managers have turned it into a wedge issue for the election cycle.

Hey, maybe the B1G and Pac-12 were listening to my plea to "let the boys play":

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/thanksgiving-start-among-potential-big-ten-schedule-options-being-discussed-by-league/

Better to make this decision now to start play around Thanksgiving rather than to try to decide in October.

Maybe the MIAC will think about changing its tune? Probably not, but its enough of a pipe dream to get me through the rest of the afternoon.

U of Iowa went from 111 student and 4 employee self reported case on Monday to over 600 and 11 today.
I want football as much as anyone but they would likely have players quarantined or self isolating already. Maybe they forgive by October it will have run thorough the student body.

We are going to see this happening at the DIII schools-actually it has started already. If that aopears to be trending out of control, we'll see fall foitball practics shut down ( and,of course, the other sports.) Although Calvin dies not have football, they are planning to have the other fall sports, however, their President said yesterday he will shut those down if that happens.

I'm with you, Sam.  This is so tied up in the election that reason has completely left the building.  Even in Australia a major inquiry into a complete fubar of incompetence around the incoming traveler quarantine program has pushed out to... Nov 6.  Australia is timing its politics on the American election.  It's a disgrace.

But, we will see football this year.  The Big 10 is talking about a post-election post-Thanksgiving restartAnd the FDA has just approved a 15-minute, $5 covid test.  50 million tests a month by October.  As the panic subsides (and the physical distance from the US election is factored in) the deadliness of the virus is dramatically decreasing.  Therapeutic treatments are improving at, gasp, an exponential rate.

Most definitely, a clear-headed, insightful look back at this year will be no more complicated than, "What the hell were they thinking?"

EDIT:  By the way, the entire MIAC could test every player and staff member three times a week for only $6k.  The whole season would cost the league $60k.  And they cancelled just a few weeks ago when the costs of testing were projected to be $30k to test just one team once a week.  Guided by pessimism with no faith in human ingenuity.  Always a bad bet.

Heck, SJU could test the entire student and staff population once a week for $10k total.  Testing the entire school for a whole school year once a week for about $250k.  Instead we're left with this mess.

On the bright side, my season tickets with reserved parking & tailgate VIP for 2020 2021 are paid in full  8-)
***Bonus, I can use the reserved parking for Spring 2021, but no word yet on ticket pricing for Spring games  ::)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Why do we need to care about the raw number of cases, again? Seems like an all but completely useless metric as it has little relevance to the overall situation. But, it sounds scary, so let's roll with it.

I guess "600 cases" on a college campus sells more add space than a "handful of hospitalizations" and "no deaths" among the same population.

Viruses do not follow our rules.  We can't control them!  You are going to have spread.  The question might be is it better for it to be in concentrated clusters or spread evenly throughout a larger unit.  I don't think there is an answer.  I believe this virus has to run its course.  The data I read seems to show that it will peak and then trail off within a group.  Will we see continuous peaks and valleys is something that we may not know until many years from now.  The other problem is with the testing data as it is starting to look more unreliable by the day especially in Dallas County.  Last week we had a day where over 700 cases were reported, but 500+ of those were from tests performed in July.  We are also seeing several false positives.

My biggest concern is that we are no longer letting people live!  I understand we all have to be safe with this virus.  We need to work to stop the spread in every way possible, but every bubble will have its leaks!  About 2 weeks I was listening to an AD at a Big 12 school who talked about the mental health repercussions of not having sports.  This country needs to have a serious discussion about mental health with this crisis.  We are not meant to live isolated.

In my opinion this country is sacrificing far too much for this virus, and the economy might be among the least of them.

Not sure what I'm going to do with myself the next 14 Saturdays. Maybe I need to learn how to make sour dough bread.

If you make it like San Francisco sour dough, put me on your mailing list. Of course, you would need starter from the Bay Area. But if you get it, I'll take 1 round loaf and 2 long loaves.
Thank you for your attention!

Top Ranked QB in MN is nice, except that he's a two star prospect. MN isn't exactly loaded with QB talent this year, no QB's have Power 5 offers, unlike previous years. I'd say he's about what you'd look for in a pioneer league QB. But it's not like he was considering offers from UNI, NDSU, etc.
