It's day 171 of 15 days to flatten the curve, and ....

MIAC postpones all competition until January 2021

https://miacathletics.com/general/2020-21/releases/20200831c6vt36

St. Olaf had already announced their teams would not compete this fall.  My guess is that there were too few schools to make playing worth it.  Golf is probably the most hurt by this decision, but those kids at least have other opportunities to compete away from college competitions.  The fall is not viewed as the main season for tennis so it might make sense just to hold off until the spring.

I am hopefully getting my live football fix in on Friyay after a little dove hunting in the AM.  It is a 6 man game which should be a fun time.

UST was able to land the top ranked QB in Minnesota: https://twitter.com/QBKowalkowski

UST's future looks bright.

Top Ranked QB in MN is nice, except that he's a two star prospect. MN isn't exactly loaded with QB talent this year, no QB's have Power 5 offers, unlike previous years. I'd say he's about what you'd look for in a pioneer league QB. But it's not like he was considering offers from UNI, NDSU, etc.

A couple of the recruiting guys have said he had official offers from Central Michigan and Florida Atlantic. Those are FBS programs. I'd say that is a pretty solid commitment.

"Wearing now my Gopher fan cap"

This young man has been popular on GopherHole for quite a while now. His tires were pumped up by a random poster (might be his Dad or Uncle) for over a year and he visited the U of M but was never offered. To me he seems like the perfect fit for any MIAC team but is not going to put UST over the top in D1, maybe the Pioneer League. Watch his film sometime, I saw a film of him throwing the ball at SJU as well as his high school film. Did not have to look far, it was always available on GopherHole.

Congrats Auggie, you're the big winner!

As for the Tommie QB commit that's quite the random list of offers, 3 non-scholarship FCS offers and 2 FBS offers.  I'm guessing the Florida Atlantic offer wasn't still on the table as that was given out before Willie Taggart took over down there.  His junior year stats were pretty ordinary at Totino, so he might have been able to generate more interest this fall if the MSHSL let him play.  Corona might just have helped the Tommies out here by keeping him under the radar.

Robert Zimmerman

This kid played at Apollo in 8th grade, Sartell in 9th and 10th grade, and then T-G in 11th and 12th grade. Nice kid, but was nicknamed "Todd Marinovich" because of his dad's legendary level of insanity in pushing him to be a D1 QB. Sending him to nationwide QB camps in elementary school.

Dad was a former Johnnie football player (on the roster at least) and he is everything that is wrong with youth sports. Sartell Youth football took his team away from him in the middle of the season. St. Cloud youth football wouldn't let him coach ever again. My son was on a team with a younger sibling of the future Tommie QB and everyone would shy away from the Dad on the sidelines during the game. It was like nothing I had ever seen before or since in youth sports and I coached travel basketball for 9 years. Screaming at the volunteer youth coaches that his son played for during a 3rd/4th grade game.

After the 8th grade season at Apollo, Dad called all the area football team coaches to find out about quarterback depth. He ended up going to Sartell and Apollo coaches could not have been happier. Sartell did not have a good team when he played there and they did not win a game when he played QB.

Family still lives in Sartell and he moved the kid down to T-G to play football.

Definitely the Dad on GopherHole. You can get a glimpse of the insanity by reading his posts.

That being said, a really nice kid and I hope he does well at UST.

;D That might be one of the funniest post histories I've ever ever read through.  He uses his actual first name for the account, almost exclusively talks about his kid and then still claims he's just a college student that wants to support all the Minnesota high school players.  Sometimes he slips up and will state that he "ran" track in college instead of saying he is currently a student-athlete and that he is somehow very rich despite just being a college student.

Will definitely be a Day 1 poster on Tommienation.com

Yes, the Dad was called out specifically and more than a few times as posting and promoting for his kid. All of what AO says is true and now we know more, thanks to Robert Zimmerman. Yes, the Dad goes out of his way to pose/post as a college student and deny he is the kid's Dad. Nobody was fooled on GopherHole.

Great story.

Meanwhile, this dropped today. Will be interesting to see how it plays out as more info comes in. Could lead to more "opt outs."

We just received a welcome video from our daughter's first-grade teacher.  Her son plays football for Bethel.  Is that something I should address with her?  :o

I'd be careful. There's bound to be a photo or two of some undergraduates congregating at Sal's, The Middy, the La, or (I'd think more likely) some large gatherings at a St. Joe party house or a local corn field.

We can try all we want to give the college students (unrealistic) rules to follow, but they will always find ways around those rules. Stopping college students from congregating in large groups is probably even more futile than trying to prohibit underage drinking.

Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.
