One more hockey post. If you have 19 minutes this is hilarious. Especially if you ever spent time as a youth hockey parent like I did for over a decade.

The four words that get any youth hockey parent more excited than anything: OUT OF TOWN TOURNAMENT

I dropped the kids at the bus stop this morning and continued on walking our dog.  I passed up a couple decked out in full Auggie Tech Football gear--pants, hats, windbreakers...

Well, I bit my tongue and didn't make any smart comments.

When I got home, it struck me that that was a lot of Auggie Tech gear, even for a parent.  So, I did a little sleuthing online--it was Derrin Lamker (and wife, I assume).  ;D  Now, I am glad I was polite.  I do regret that I grabbed a hat other than my Johnnie football hat, though.

A tradition unrivaled...

Surprised you did not recognize him right away?! I had a similar experience at a Gopher Baseball game when I saw Gary Fasching sitting near us. I had to take a long look before I recognized him and why he was wearing SJU gear to a Gopher baseball game.

I have a feeling you and Derrin will be hanging out together soon.

OldAuggie,
I can't say that I'd ever seen him before today.  If I bump into him again, I'll have to tease him a bit.  They must live somewhere near me.

A few years ago when Jeff Fasching was playing for the Gophers, I ran into Gary at a store in Gopher gear.  I had to literally do a triple take because I've only ever known him to wear Johnnie gear.  ;D

Tommies look to be highlighting hockey- solid coaching hire for sixth D1 hockey school in Minnesota.

Watched that presser yesterday. Watching UND hockey from time-to-time I know enough to know that's about as good of a hire as they could've hoped for. Was hoping Esten would give some hint at a facilities plan but he's still tight lipped. Hoping they figure something out soon, tough recruiting/competing with their current configurations.

Can only imagine convincing a D1 kid to commute during rush hour everyday to play and practice at a HS rink when other regional schools have legit NHL level amenities ON campus.

A little bird flew by my office yesterday. This little bird carries blueprints under his arm and wears a hard hat at construction sites around town. So the word on the street is a certain NFL team, that wears purple and is owned by real estate developers based in NYC, may or may not be developing some ice arenas for community use. There seems to be a current D3 university that is transitioning to D1, who coincidentally also wears purple, that may or may not be in talks with a certain real estate development company (F.A.M.I.L.Y) based in NYC to be a long term leasee of ice arena space for one or more gender specific  university ice hockey teams.
No word yet if a certain real estate development company based in NYC is in talks of any other athletic facilities developments for a certain university transitioning from D3 to D1 which may or may not have land/space restrictions in their current location.

Could be a mutually beneficial relationship. Long term tenant for a certain real estate developer, and a certain school doesn't have to put up with hassle of negotiating with the City of St. Paul, environmental impact studies, bidding contractors, etc.

A win/win situation, as much as I don't like purple  8-)

I have two team members who played for him at Miami. They speak very highly of him. I think it's a home run hire for UST IMO.

I assume they played for him before his final 4-6 seasons? I've heard that he totally mailed in recruiting at that point up until he was let go.

Bethel had a scrimmage yesterday against Concordia of St. Paul. Both teams had several players held out. Pretty good give and take. Both offenses scored several times. Both made some nice plays on D. Bethel finished with 3 sacks on the last possession which was fun.

I think we scrimmage Mac this Saturday.

In other news - Here's Meatloaf singing the National Anthem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vHwPmKmwH4

There was a bit of chatter last year about his demise as a performer, but he did a pretty decent job on this one. I came across this when jumping into a rabbit hole as newbies do "first reactions" to Paradise by the Dashboard Light on YouTube. When you have a couple of hours to waste, Google them - they are hilarious.

Retired Old Rat

Freddie Gillespie of Woodbury (East Ridge HS, Carlton College, Baylor) has signed a 10 day contract with the Toronto Raptors.  What a great story.

This story in the Athletic is excellent.

The Athletic is a pay site, I don't remember if they give you anything for free.

I know this belongs on the basketball board.  I'm afraid if I only post it there no one will see it until October or November.
