With Andrew Norwell on the practice field but not participating, that meant the Jaguars got to see second-year guard Ben Bartch once again tape reps with the starting offense. Bartch flashed on Friday, winning several one-on-ones and paving the way for two big runs in team drills. He did deal with some penalty issues, though, and all of this carried over to Saturday.

In terms of power and athleticism, Bartch looks the part. He moves easy in pass protection, has a much-improved anchor to a year ago and gets good movement in the run game. He flashed yet again on Saturday, especially as a run-blocker in team drills. With this in mind, he was also called for a personal foul to negate one moderate gain. Bartch is still a bit inconsistent, but there is no question he is better than he was in his first training camp. With Norwell dealing with injuries the last few seasons, there seems to be a good chance Bartch could start at one point or another this year.

Bartch is doing well.  Looks like he'll make a good year at the Jags, knock on wood.

Hello to all my friends on this board

Mount Union begins it's football season today. The team will have testing and physicals for a couple days and be on the field starting Thursday. First game is September 4 at Westminster (Pa). The Titans, defending champion of The Presidents Athletic Conference, are picked to repeat as PAC champion. Seems like a good start to the 2021 season.

How is everybody here? I'm sure you're all glad to be back to normal (?)! Will we really miss U$T, oops, I mean The Tommies!
Hope all the MIAC teams do well, everyone stays healthy and you get a good representation in the playoffs (Region 6 is a killer).

Go Everybody!  ;D
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

So glad to see that SJU is finally upgrading the scoreboard. Maple Grove HS just put up a big, new scoreboard this week to go with their new turf (glad to see my tax dollars at work).  I'm happy to see that SJU is keeping pace with the big high schools.  :o

A tradition unrivaled...

I guess the new scoreboard is a good thing.  My favourite scoreboard is the one at Adelaide Oval which was built in 1911 and still has a guy inside changing the numbers during a match.

And even though the stadium has been enhanced many times over the years, including a complete redevelopment in the last 7 or 8 years, they have kept the old scoreboard and the grassy hill around it for first come, first serve seating.

Adelaide, if you've ever been there, is one of those second cities that struggles with its identity so has quite a few architectural nightmares around the place.  But they did the oval development very well.

Ooh, this looks nice.  Have downloaded.  Looks good.  I hope the streaming is good as well and that I can airplay it to the TV.

It's up!  New Scoreboard at SJU

QuoteCOLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - A new, state-of-the-art Formetco video scoreboard has been installed at Saint John's University's Clemens Stadium.

The high-definition, LED scoreboard – which is situated just in front of the southeast hillside - can display live footage from the football field and stands, as well as replays and recorded content.

The approximately 30 feet by 50 feet (1,400 square feet) scoreboard is a gift from the Sexton Family Foundation in recognition of legendary SJU head coach John Gagliardi, the winningest coach in college football history with 489 career victories.

The new scoreboard features a single-point sound system on top and is slightly larger than the videoboard at CHS Field in St. Paul (home of the St. Paul Saints), which is slightly under 27 feet by 49 feet (1,300 square feet).

The task of operating the scoreboard will be part of the new Go Johnnies Network, which oversees live video streaming, the mobile app and more.

Are they keeping the pay-per-view model in place for streaming games in the new app?

I've had a few friends download the app and they say they like it so far. The real test will be once the fall sport seasons get going. I'm downloading it now.

I also like the idea of push notifications. Perhaps that will mean scores when games go final? I remember signing up for text alerts way back when (probably around 2005 or so?) and really liking receiving an alert from all of the sports when games finished. I think those notifications went away about 7-10 years ago, and I have missed them ever since. Twitter has replaced the notifications (somewhat), but often times the updates get lost in the sea of other tweets in my feed (and Twitter's algorithms, which drive me nuts).

I can't say for certain, but based on the fundraising letter I received yesterday, I would guess so.  It mentioned that those proceeds have been helpful in funding the program.

You know, with the new scoreboard being located on the southeast hill, SJU's chiropractic sponsors could make a killing off neck adjustments for visiting fans.

I, too, wonder how the vistors are supposed to see the scoreboard.  I'd be ticked if I were at a venue and I couldn't see the scoreboard.

It's hard to tell how much it is angled toward the visitor bleacher, though the pictures I've seen lead me to believe it will be difficult for the visitors no matter how you slice it.

To that end, I think they could put something small (and perhaps temporary) in the north end zone or northwest corner. It doesn't have to be a full-blown videoboard. Just enough to show score, down and distance, and the clock.

That's exactly what I am hoping for.

Here's a picture with a better view of the angle of scoreboard. I think the visitors will be able to see it but it might be a slight pain in the neck. Would be great if they could add a small one off the 4th turn on the track for our guests.
Also the coaching staff of the visiting team might appreciate having a clock on the opposite side of their sideline.
