It might be a "tall tale"....I think John opted to eliminate blue and go with red only as a cost saving measure.

That's the story he told.

Baby blue shorts? What do you all think?

I'm fine with it in a practice setting.

Another Johnnie and I were talking this afternoon about how the possibility of a 1930s uniform throwback is closer than we think.

That's a light blue uniform with red trim for those who don't know.

90 years later and Johnnies still have that trademarked look.  My Aussie wife claims she can spot a Johnnie from 100 meters.

The "official" color is Marian Blue! I think there may have been blue in the uniforms when John first arrived.  It might be a "tall tale"....I think John opted to eliminate blue and go with red only as a cost saving measure.  I believe baseball and football are the only sports without Marian Blue in their uniform colors.  Basketball switched to blue uniforms for road games back in 1977-78, but have switched back and forth over the years.  I think the blue hockey jerseys are really sharp.... Not sure I would like football to abandon the traditional red /white look!!!

I definitely do not want the football team abandoning the red and white. It's too well established, and all of the team's national championships came wearing the red and white.

That being said, if they wanted to do a one-off throwback game to the 1935 uniforms, I wouldn't oppose it. Just keep it to once every other year or every three years or something. I would just hope that doing so wouldn't create a feeling that they can do crazy uniforms all the time like they are the doggone Oregon Ducks.

Going back to your discussion of the new scoreboard. It was stated that visitors might have a hard time seeing it.
It occurs to me that they may be better off NOT seeing the score. Why get depressed? Go Johnnies!  ;D

Somebody must be watching this board, as the turf is going down! https://app.truelook.cloud/dashboard/199/520/live?code=atzyzy1yjzue2g7gyr7erlhwc&fbclid=IwAR1nG_0ihLAor_o0DUuqjceHxWQnGnWiBdG9dprbXmoRmHlHTEZx0eQYV54

PS. Looks like the scoreboard is being moved to the end zone closest to the locker rooms - used to be over on the corner by the visitors side. Wonder if the old one is simply being refurbished, or something digital is coming in.

Am I missing something here? What is wrong with the end zone where the old scoreboard was located. Everyone could see that one fine. It seems kind of odd placing it on one side of the field and does hamper the hillside crowd.

If this has already been discussed, sorry to bother.

Maybe this year?

That's a good question that I haven't heard an answer to.

Anyone here do landscaping or did once upon a time?  How long does sod need to settle in and withstand the wear and tear of a football game?  Two weeks?

That sounds about right in an emergency situation possibly a week.  There was a D1 school a few years ago that had to re-sod their field in the middle of the season.

Bethel's installing field turf...correct? I think that's playable right away.
Last time we had grass (sod) on our yard we didn't walk on it for a week or two.

Yeah, that's synthetic turf.  You can play on it immediately.

I've heard an answer. I'm not sure if it is the real reason for the shift.

What I heard was that they didn't want it blocking the view of the Abbey bell banner and Alcuin Library. Take that for what it's worth. I, personally, am skeptical--the reason being that the trees on the south hill, which were small when I arrived on campus in the fall of 2003, are now pretty sizable (20-30 feet tall) and they already block the view of the Abbey and library.
