D3 preseason poll is out - Johnnies #6, Bethel #16 - complete list here: https://www.d3football.com/top25/2021/preseason?fbclid=IwAR3OvfwStakB8b4FQXk45N8msLg5iLnvebQA_HLmzTh2QCUdHz48h0kc4HY

How huge is week one in Collegeville?
#6 hosting #23

When I looked at what Aurora had back, I had them ranked 16 on my ballot. They are basically bringing back everyone.

St John's has the toughest first four weeks of the schedule of any team in D3 (subtracting the Martin Luther game). Someone convince me I'm wrong.
North Central is playing Aurora/Wheaton/Augustana in the first 4.  John Carroll has Washington and Jefferson/Mount Union.  I'm sure the Johnnies will appreciate the front-loaded schedule when they have two bye weeks before the rematch against Bethel or Concordia.

I wish the Martin Luther game was Sept. 4. Johnnies have a history of starting a little slow. Could use a scrimmage before facing tougher competition.

Was wondering a few things. Who are some of the top WR's corps returning and best DL's.

It's tough to say as I don't know exactly who will be back after the '20 season that never materialized.  Alston and Hodge are studs for SJU (though they did have Erdmann throwing to them).  SJU always seems to have at least one or two beast on the d-line--not sure who that will be this year.  Otherwise, Bethel is typically tough on the defensive front.

It'll be interesting to see how things shake out the first few games of the season.  There are a ton of unknowns right now.

Am I missing something here? What is wrong with the end zone where the old scoreboard was located.

That's a good question that I haven't heard an answer to.

I've heard an answer. I'm not sure if it is the real reason for the shift.

What I heard was that they didn't want it blocking the view of the Abbey bell banner and Alcuin Library. Take that for what it's worth. I, personally, am skeptical--the reason being that the trees on the south hill, which were small when I arrived on campus in the fall of 2003, are now pretty sizable (20-30 feet tall) and they already block the view of the Abbey and library.

Just my 2 cents worth, but I don't go to a St. John's game to get a view of the Abbey or library. I go to watch the game. Don't know what was wrong with where the scoreboard was, seemed like a perfect location to me as basically everyone could see it.

Today is a glorious day in Melbourne.  We are in our 200th day of home arrest.  Allowed to leave your house for only a hour a day, alone and within a 3 mile limit, for only four legal reasons.  Spectacular.

Next season I may be attending many Johnnie games.  The wife has tried to make me promise that I and the girls (who are all American citizens) won't leave her behind.  I'm still considering my answer.

Now that they are actually sewing the turf down, and pouring concrete, it's actually kind of fun to check in every half hour or so.

When SJU put turf in in 2002, I was doing research on the St. Ben's campus for the summer.  Every day, I'd drive over to Clemens Stadium to check out the progress. :)

Intel from Frank Rajkowski on Nick Neumann and more on the potential starters on the Johnnie OL:

https://gojohnnies.com/news/2021/8/19/football-st-cloud-orthopedics-feature-as-times-change-neumann-still-an-anchor-on-sju-o-line.aspx?fbclid=IwAR0jOfZhe1Kdt87k1IKXUtCn6sgWWeiQxPmcgLqvP_TXIMt3xonPRIN8nYM

QuoteAmong the players that could be joining 6-foot-2, 310-pound Neumann up front offensively this season include senior Tyler Johnson (a converted tight end who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 265 pounds) at tackle and senior Jarod Fike (6-2, 290) and junior T.J. Duerr (6-1, 310) at guard. Junior Joe Jaeger (6-2, 270) could see time at guard or tackle, while senior Blake Golden (6-5, 285) and sophomore Riese Renville (6-5, 290) are among the others vying for spots.

I would agree...didn't he play only one play and got his hand busted up in 2019?
