I just realised Pat and Co talk about the Johnnie/Aurora matchup two podcasts in a row. Thanks, fellas. Appreciate the content.

The Top 25 is out. (https://d3football.prestosports.com/top25/2021/week1)

The Johnnies remain at #6.
BU drops to #17 (Wartburg moved ahead of them).

Aurora moves up two spots to #21, a fitting position.  I think they will finish in the teens.

No other MIAC team received votes.

Notables from around District 9.  Sorry, region 6.

MHB at #1
UWW at #3
HSU at #7
UWO at #11
Linfield at #12 (yes, the newly reformed and rebalanced region structure has put 50% of the top 12 into 1/6th of the field)
Chapman at #18
Whitworth at #24

As an aside, I don't know how they will structure a post season with six regions instead of something factorable by four, but assuming they still want to balance the playoffs with travel and intra-region play for the first round or two, region 6 is now obviously going to be a slaughter house before getting to the other regions.  Something really looks broken.

Well stated, I wonder how many years it will take to fix this fiasco?

I don't think that the UST void can be replaced with a MIAC team Oz. So, you can replace them with one from the WIAC instead.

May I suggest Whitewater?   ;D    (and they wear purple too)

Speaking of things that can be replaced, that blue bar at the top of the streaming Johnnie Sports Network webcast can be replaced right now. It seems like any time there was a play along the far sideline it got blocked by the blue bar.

Just my two cents.
Agree...wonder who one could contact about that?

Dunno.  I'm not certain it's a fiasco but it's got a chance to be.  I think they will still bracket in four brackets, the default N/S/E/W of yesteryear.  What this does, possibly, is make it harder for the traditional Western and Southern power conferences to get that second seed.  They have stacked all the traditional second seed conferences (WIAC, ASC and MIAC) together and I think that will keep second teams in region six off the consideration board for longer, letting other regions get better access to Pool C spots.

For example, in 2019 region six teams captured 60% of the pool C spots.  In 2018 they got 40%.  In 2017 it was 50%.  That was when those conferences were spread across both the south and west regions.  Now they are all trying to get on the region six regional rankings and I think there will be less room.

Who knows?  Win your conference and eliminate the question, as always.  We'll find out how it plays out in practice at the end of the year.  I assume (hope) that someone at NCAA HQ modelled out a few seasons to see how it would have worked in years gone by.

I don't know nothing for nothing, of course, but we've posted around the growing divide between program haves and have nots before during TEXIT.  It's often discussed how some conferences dominate but it's really some programs dominate at a national level.  They spend more money, commit more school zeitgeist, to football competitiveness.  The gap between those programs and DIII programs out for a good time but not interested in competing at the national level is getting quite distinct.  Maybe this regional structure is an attempt to let the more competitively oriented programs still do their thing while living up the DIII spirit of letting everyone have a go and making post season access a little more available to second seeds from less dominant conferences.

Anyways, it's just week one.  The first week one in two years.  I should probably shelve this talk until week 8 or 9.

Interesting that Bethel moved down a spot. Not really a big deal though since the Top 25 is just for fun and has no real bearing on anything, especially this early in the season.

As for BU v Cobber heartbreakers. There was a 3 OT game in 07 where Wetzel scrambled on a 4th down and threw from the right sideline across to the opposite numbers. It was a wild win and I remember as we celebrated thinking how devastated I'd be on the opposite sideline.

Highlights/hype video from the weekend's game.  I'm glad that these are being done despite the two years off.  I was afraid whoever was doing it last time had graduated and it would go the way of the dodo.

I see BU got a player on the D3 Team of the Week - kicker Jack Hanson, for his 8 PATs and a 46 yard field goal. That's cool, as BU hasn't had that kind of range and consistency for a while now.

I, too, am glad this kept going. I think they must have some solid institutional backing for this via the sports information/sports marketing departments. It's much higher quality content compared to even 5 years ago.

Looks like the Johnnies won 98-0 again according to that video.   ::)

The entire production in Collegville is a giant step up. Gotta believe these video compilations are helpful in recruiting.

I mean, it's not meant to be a recap video. I'm not shocked when a team does a highlight video and only showcases what they did well. Bethel has done these for a while, not sure if they still do, but we used to show these to the players on the morning of the next weeks game for some hype.

Remember that one posted on the Bethel website from a few years back where Bethel had a long kickoff return and you could hear the UST coaches in the neighboring press box very clearly dropping some unsavory language? Classic stuff.
