Perfect morning here in Sioux Falls. Mid-50s at dawn, high in mid-70s, dew point at 48°. In short: perfect football weather. Sure would be nice to have another dose of Johnnie football this weekend. But, alas, the off week rears its head early.

What games are my fellow Johnnies watching this weekend to tide themselves over?

Had there been a home game next Saturday that video board would be a good place for a tribute to Tom Burnett and others.

There was one this past weekend.

Also, it hasn't been brought up yet, but for those who were in attendance at Clemens Stadium this past Saturday, what did you think of the videoboard and single-point sound system? I feel like its going to throw me for a bit of a loop when I go back for homecoming.

The video board is awesome.  You don't miss a play when you run to the concession stand or take kids to the bathroom (unless you, too, go to the bathroom).

I thought the sound was OK.  It could have been a little louder, especially the ref's mic.  My other (small) gripe is that you get an echo when the men's chorus does the fight song, alma mater, and national anthem because you hear them singing a split second before the sound from across the field hits you.

A tradition unrivaled...

I think the new video board is great. The biggest thing for me is the replays. The board is huge and the quality is outstanding. I'm still wondering about the view from the visitor side of the field.

I thought the sound quality was good.

North Central/Aurora is the game I'm most interested in. Will provide a gauge on the strength of the Johnnies.

It's a really interesting matchup. Both NCC and SJU had all world QB's they are replacing. Interested to see who NCC has after Rutter, and yes, how Aurora matches up (and bounces back after a heartbreaker).

St. Scholastica has no more non-conference games scheduled and won't start play for the season until 9/25/21.

Oofta! Talk about the worst way possible to start playing MIAC football. Augsburg will have two games under their belt and Hamline three. At least they get Hamline early I guess. That could be a recipe for a winless first year for CSS.

One key diff between NCC and Aurora is that NCC is absolutely loaded on offense except at QB. They bring back every skill player and 3 of 5 OL including a consensus AA. On defense they bring back 8 starters on a top 20 def. The only question for NCC is QB and the kid they are starting is a dual threat freshman who has been on campus and in practice since Jan 2020.

Glad there was one. We'd hoped to make it to the game but got delayed. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised not only to find the video was free, but I could pull it in on my phone in W. Virginia and western Pa. The signal got shaky in southeastern Ohio -- I think MUC was jamming the signal. ;)

Will be out here the MLC game and hope to be back for a few in October.

The video board looks impressive. I'm a bit concerned that I might end up paying too much attention to that and miss something on the field ... seems to happen to me at NHL rinks and NBA arenas.

North Central also hasn't played a game yet.  It will be interesting to see if North Central will have to shake some rust off and if Aurora will be able to take advantage of rust related miscues.

I could have been clearer. I wasn't trying to imply 5 NCC wasn't loaded. More of, the major piece they need to determine is the loss of an all world QB. I remember from the Bethel v NCC playoff game in 2018 thinking, these guys are good ... and really young.

No, unfortunately, I don't think it will end soon, Bob.  We're over a year away from when the next election must be held (in Australia, as in the UK, the sitting gov't gets to call the election date at short notice to best suit them.  They have a date range they must call it in.).

So, I'm deeply grateful for Johnnie football.  Speaking of the football, the season pass is now available on Stretch.  The first game was free but we'll pony up from here on out (and I'm more than happy to do it).

Apparently these videos play on the video board during pregame at Clemens Stadium. All of them got me fired up. The one with John addressing the team (#2) sent chills down my spine. It reminded me of when I attended a few Crimson Tide games in Tuscaloosa. One of the things they play on the video boards during pregame are some cuts spliced into their hype video of Bear Bryant speaking about Alabama football. The fans there openly say it's like the voice of God to them.

I am not going to go as far as to say that John is a deity, but having his voice as part of the pregame does an excellent job tying together the past with the present.

Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.
