My fear with this game is we have 0 game or ever scrimmage action vs another team.

Yeah, that sucks.  On the flip side, the boys should be fresh.  ;D

I feel like a 4-4 season this year will be a win.

I think 4 wins would be a very good MIAC debut for CSS.

A tradition unrivaled...

IMO, keys for the game on the Bethel side is our Oline and Roste's accuracy. He's also a huge dude for a D3 QB ... can he channel his inner Wetzel/Aakre, and use that size to punish some tacklers going for tough yards?

I think, as is my rose-colored tendency, that the key to the game lies in one simple metric:  dropped passes by SJU receivers.  In both of the first two games dropped passes were the difference between SJU jumping out to big leads and SJU leaving the door open for the opposition.  If the receivers have enough stick 'um on their mitts then I think the pressure of the SJU offense will be decisive.  If drop passes abound then I think the predictable pressure of BU team which almost always executes well plus the hype of the biggest game of the year will be bad for us.

(I expect the SJU secondary will be suspect, again, but a hot offense will minimise that vulnerability)

EDIT: Also [insert Footloose film clip here].

A little birdie tells me that a Tommie was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct with just a couple minutes left in the big loss to UNI.  Does anyone have details?
I skimmed the play by play in the stats and didn't see any mention of a personal foul penalty....I'd a player were ejected it would likely have been a personal foul as well.

#40 Jack Mohler. Was a dumb play and the optics look really bad. The guy with the ball was stood up in the pile and it seems Jack came in trying to punch the ball out. That's my most charitable and purple tinted view, but it looked terrible and things were getting chippy at that point also.
Luke Glenna #23 was ejected earlier for roughing the passer and targeting also. If you pull up the ESPN3 footage, curious what you think.

I watched both...so here's my two cents. The "targeting" call was weird as the officials on the field didn't call it and the camera angles and video quality weren't that good. Glenna went airborne and then for some reason tucked his head which caused him to hit the qb in the facemask with the crown of his helmet. If you watch the plays before that Glenna his the qb high earlier in the possession and did not draw a flag. I always love to see a Tommie get the boot however I'm tired of players getting ejected for targeting as it seems to be applied inconsistently.
The Mohler play looked more egregious to me...even if was trying to knock the ball out he took what looked like two punches at the pile / UNI player. I also thought it was pretty obvious that the players forward progress was stopped. Considering there had just been a targeting ejection there's no way the officials could let it go. I can understand being frustrated being down 44-3 but the game was over...a turnover there does nothing...I agree it was kind of dumb play.
Are both of them out for the first half the next game?
Why have your starters in at that time of the game?

Reminds me of the STA / CDH game I went to on Friday night. STA was up 34-14 with about a minute to play and kept their starting running back in. They scored a garbage touchdown to win 41-14. Why risk them getting injured or having a frustrated opponent do something stupid?

That was just good old fashioned Catholic on Catholic crime.  ;D I think STA was just pushing buttons on a former 6A bully that decided to move down a class.

Side note - I like th Johnnie baby blues. Maybe it's just the nostalgic MLB brain kicking in. I also like that Fasching has put his own stamp on things and recognizes little tweaks that add some energy. As far as I recall there are only a handful of Power 5 holdouts that haven't busted out alternate jerseys (Penn State, Bama, USC come to mind).

Side note 2 - impressed with the Tommie D. They held up pretty darn well, given the opponent and field position they had. The offense was wholly unimpressive. slow and unimaginative. QB play looked mediocre for D3, much less a top notch FCS opponent. It will be a long journey upward, which is to be expected.

Yeah, CDH dropping down a class, will receive very little sympathy from anyone they play.

Granted, I am overly knowledgable in defensive backfields, but I can't recall a single pass completion (possibly even a pass attempt) thrown in the direction of Tommy Deters this year.  MLC's passing game was pretty awful, but AU could sling the ball.  Gotta pick on the newbies, I guess.  :o

Anyone know what happened with John Kohler?  He started in '19, he's on the '21 roster, but I haven't seen him on the field.

We've got riots, tear gas, rubber bullets.  The state gov't declared the entire economy shut for two weeks.  And just now a 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit the city.  So far every one is going gaga over a burger joint which hasn't operated in 5 months in an old building which collapsed.  Lots of cracks in old buildings.

Melbourne is going to hell in a hand basket.  And I don't even have the Tommies to hate on anymore.

I went on a rant a few weeks ago about Aurora not throwing anything in Deters' direction and feasting on the other side of the formation, but Iperhaps I was too negative  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Oz, I've been following on international news but not knowing how straight they are telling the story. It appears they are telling it straight. :-[

Unfortunately, yes.  Today is one of the grim milestones.  Melbourne has officially passed Buenos Aries and is now the most locked down city in the world at 234 days of home arrest for every resident.  And the 'target' is to let us out on Oct 26.  Nice.
