Old habits die hard.

I was actually in the office today for the 3rd time (or so) since March 2020, so no day drinking today.

Lots of good football in TX, so I shouldn't be surprised.  I hope they're ready for winter--Duluth can be brutal.  :o

There are a few HS in Texas that would win the MIAC.  I know that sounds controversial, but there are teams where well over half the starters play at the P5 level.  I was visiting family a few months ago in Arkansas.  They asked if Chad Morris was making more money to coach HS in Texas from his job in Arkansas.  I told them that he wasn't going to make anywhere near what Arkansas was paying him, but he probably did upgrade the talent level he was coaching.  Texas HS football can be a lot of fun, but it is filled with insanity.  It is not uncommon to see academics of a school rated based solely on the record of the football team.  Look at some of the stadiums, and I am not limiting it to the mega HS stadiums.  There is now one with a X-ray machine in the locker room so we can see if a kid is fit to return to a game.  I figured if a kid needed an X-ray they were likely done for the game.  I think the other issue is that football in Texas is nearly a year-round activity.  The season is longer than the MIAC even if you don't make the playoffs.  Spring ball is about a month long.  7v7 is always being played.  It's just too much.

Several MIAC teams have tried to build a pipeline to Texas with football.  It is a tough one to crack.  St. Olaf has a player from a HS in Texas that shocked me based on the school.  I don't think a MIAC school has been able to sustain the Texas pipeline.  I think there is a thought among many Texas kids that it is D1 or bust, and it might be P5 or bust.  That mixed with coaches that seem to run the programs with complete control makes it very difficult to build those inroads.  That isn't to say there aren't opportunities to recruit Texas.  Texas only has about 45 four year schools that play football.  That may seem like a lot, but given the population it is relatively small.  With the quality of players everyone is looking for that diamond in the rough.  I think there are opportunities to recruit Texas for MIAC schools, but it will always be a tough to sustain it.

Anybody know what's going on on the MIAC front page for football? I just went there and St. Thomas is still listed with a record of 1 and 0. That's weird.

Battle of air attacks in St. Peter today with Gusties and Cobbers. I don't recall ever putting "Cobbers" in that kind of statement before. Should be fun!

If anyone with contacts into program can pass some feedback onto the media dept, I would be deeply appreciative.

Can we please avoid zooming in on every play?  Save the zoom for the replay.  Please keep a wide view on the game when the play is live.  Particularly as the Johnnies tend to pass long and we spend more time listing to VOJ on the video broadcast to find what's happened than the watching the video itself.

Seconded. Every play starts with a tight shot of only the Oline and backfield. There's no sense of what's happening in the secondary, pre-snap, or even often as the play develops.
