2 goose-eggs in a row for the Johnnie D.  I'd love for them to make it 3!

No doubt.  And we need to be clear eyed about the defense's improvement.  We don't always give them the credit they deserve.  They are certainly coming together well.  From the gojohnnie.com write up:

Quote
A week after SJU's defense held Concordia to 163 yards through the air in Oct. 2's 49-0 shutout in Moorhead (the Cobbers entered the contest eighth in NCAA Division III in passing offense at 345.0 yards per game), the Johnnies came through once again against a nationally ranked offense. Augsburg quarterback Cade Sheehan, the reigning MIAC Offensive Player of the Week, started the day fifth nationally in both total offense (345.2 ypg.) and passing touchdowns (18). Sheehan finished 13 of 27 passing for 128 yards and two interceptions, and eight yards rushing on 11 attempts.

Sheehan's favorite target, sophomore wide receiver Dominic Smith, was second in Division III in receiving touchdowns (9), third in receiving yards per game (136.8) and fourth in receptions per game (8.8). Smith was targeted 10 times and caught five passes for 59 yards.

As a team, the Auggies were ninth in the country on third down at 56.7 percent (34-for-60) but finished 3-for-11 (27.3 percent) against SJU.

While watching the beatdown yesterday, with the yellow flags flying at will, I also noticed the attitude with this Auggie team. I think Lamker has identified the right style going forward and has the right idea for recruiting.

I hope he is able to build Augsburg up as Johnson built up Bethel's program. Time will tell but he is a winner no doubt.

They definitely had attitude.  They may have been beaten but they never gave up or acted likr they thought they didn't belong out there. When the system settles in I think they will be a challenging team.

The refs were flag happy.

I think Henry Trost might be considered for Team of the Week!  :)

I agree.  He had a noteworthy game.

The Johnnies move up to 5th in the top 25 (https://d3football.com/top25/2021/week6), passing Wheaton by just five points.  BU stays at 16th.  GAC gets 11 points.

EDIT: From the gojohnnies.com story...

Quote
Ten teams in NCAA Region 6 were ranked in the top 25, including five in the top 10: Mary Hardin-Baylor (No. 2), Wisconsin-Whitewater (No. 3), SJU (No. 5), Linfield (No. 7), Hardin-Simmons (No. 8), Central (No. 10), Wisconsin-La Crosse (No. 11), Bethel (No. 16), Wisconsin-Oshkosh (No. 18) and Trinity of Texas (No. 23). Six others (Howard Payne, Whitworth, Chapman, Gustavus Adolphus, Wisconsin-Stout and Wisconsin River Falls) received votes.

I keep thinking that this overloading in Region 6 will affect the pool C selections.  Feels like it should. We'll see when it gets there.

I am sure he will be nominated but there will probably also be guys with more than 11 carries and more than 107 yards. Agreed four TDs is a great number.

I don't know what anyone else did but was impressed with 4TDs the first half and a 26 point game.

That and the MIAC changes will be interesting for how things shake out for BU...assuming BU and SJU meet again with another SJU win, I wonder how that works out for Bethel.  Does it depend on whether the second game is close?  Is 2 losses for Bethel going to mean no playoffs regardless?

I think Bethel's main problem is how Platteville and North Park have managed only one combined win so far.  It really does not pay to play the lower tier teams from great conferences even though it might be a better game than playing a winning team from a poor conference.  The MIAC as a whole did their job in winning non-conference games so Bethel's SoS will still be ok but I don't think it'll be significantly higher than some of the other 9-1 teams left on the board, we'll see.  The committee certainly has the right to consider the closeness of the games against regionally ranked opponents such as St. John's.  It would also help if the Johnnies can get ranked 1st in the region.

Obviously a win for Bethel in the MIAC Championship is the only sure way to make the playoffs, but I don't think a 2 loss Bethel team is completely out of consideration. Both losses would be to a Top 10 SJU team.

Looking elsewhere, the runner-up in both the OAC and WIAC might also end up with 2 losses depending on how things shake out (if John Carroll beats Baldwin Wallace and UWW wins out).

One negative is that Bethel's win over Platteville doesn't look too strong given how Platteville's season is going. Whether Gustavus is regionally ranked will also matter I think.

In all fairness to Bethel, that's typically a pretty good scheduling strategy. Get two teams from very good conferences, one (UWP) that tends to be in the mix for a top 3 league finish. And one that you have a good shot at winning. UWP having only 1 win is an anomaly. When you're hopefully playing SJU twice (or at least the winner of the Northwoods division), a team like UWP is solid, challenging non-con game.
