I keep thinking that this overloading in Region 6 will affect the pool C selections.  Feels like it should. We'll see when it gets there.

That and the MIAC changes will be interesting for how things shake out for BU...assuming BU and SJU meet again with another SJU win, I wonder how that works out for Bethel.  Does it depend on whether the second game is close?  Is 2 losses for Bethel going to mean no playoffs regardless?
I think Bethel's main problem is how Platteville and North Park have managed only one combined win so far.  It really does not pay to play the lower tier teams from great conferences even though it might be a better game than playing a winning team from a poor conference.  The MIAC as a whole did their job in winning non-conference games so Bethel's SoS will still be ok but I don't think it'll be significantly higher than some of the other 9-1 teams left on the board, we'll see.  The committee certainly has the right to consider the closeness of the games against regionally ranked opponents such as St. John's.  It would also help if the Johnnies can get ranked 1st in the region.

In all fairness to Bethel, that's typically a pretty good scheduling strategy. Get two teams from very good conferences, one (UWP) that tends to be in the mix for a top 3 league finish. And one that you have a good shot at winning. UWP having only 1 win is an anomaly. When you're hopefully playing SJU twice (or at least the winner of the Northwoods division), a team like UWP is solid, challenging non-con game.
Platteville could certainly win their last 5 and help Bethel out.  North Park on the other hand will have to fight to find a single win.

What's the rule on the house amending the spread after it is published?

If anybody got their picks in before the change, I think we'd have to give him the original spread.

To make matters worse we had some injuries on the defensive side of the ball.

So, the lesson here is get the pick in first and then let you correct the spread. ;)

SJU13

Getting into divisional play it looks like the northwoods division faired a bit better than their skyline counterparts in the non-conference and conference / non-divisional matchups. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out in the second half of the season.

Taking a look early in the week at STO and it appears they dropped their senior QB for a freshman in the battle for Northfield. Not sure if it's due to injury or performance (ints and fumbles in the Augsburg game). A second start at SJU would be quite the introduction to MIAC football.

The randomised Spotify playlist really came through big today with an old family classic.  It's impossible to count number of times we sang this Loudon Wainwright ditty as a family driving down a northern Minnesota road.

The STrib's Football Across America column highlighted a couple of MIAC stories, with the Mac interim coach and Dr Veldman at Gustavus.

I think Henry Trost might be considered for Team of the Week!  :)

It's a no on Trost but Kyle Kornovich's spectacular defensive game got the tip.  Team of the week for him.

STO DT Jordan Bartholomew was also recognised and that was it for the MIAC this week.

Good read.  What a tough stretch of injuries for Veldman - I can't imagine being in college that long.  Also, best of luck to him with the NFL, but if Jackson Erdman with his enormous pile of statistics and accomplishments hasn't even cracked a practice squad, then it's hard for me to imagine that Veldman has much of a shot.

Someone's going to quote John Blutarsky, right?

Nope. But I will quote Tommy Boy:
