At least three of this week's MIAC games are somewhat "trap" games. The first one is the cross divisional game with Hamline at Gustavus. Again, we have an instance where each of these teams just played the same team (Bethel) in the previous two weeks, so there may be a bit of info to glean there. Gustavus scored a few more points and allowed BU to score fewer points, and everything says the Gusties should win this home game. The Pipers might surprise them and catch them flat footed after the easy win last week in Duluth.

Macalester at Augsburg is the second possible "trap" game this week. If the Scots can contain the Augsburg connection between Sheehan (QB) and Smith (WR) who are leading the MIAC, they could make a game of it. The Scots posted 27 points last week against Concordia, so they could stay with Augsburg in theory.

The third possible "trap" game is between Bethel and Concordia. If the Cobbers could find a way to contain the multi-player approach that the Royals have shown so far this season, they would find themselves in control of the Skyline Division and most likely in the playoff game with the Johnnies. This game is the most unlikely of the three to be an upset.

Carleton travels up to Duluth to take on St. Scholastica. I believe this is the first time these two teams have ever met on the field, but the MIAC "old-timers" should easily handle the Saints putting the Knights at 5 and 1 for the first time in a long time, and guaranteeing at least a .500 season.

The blow-out game this week has St. Olaf in Collegeville against the Johnnies. St. John's has pitched two shutouts in the last two weeks, one of which was Augsburg. In turn, Augsburg beat St. Olaf earlier this year 56 to 28, so I don't see the Oles scoring any points this week either, showcasing the stoutness of the Johnnie defense.

There goes Art trying to build excitement...  ;D

I think Gustavus, Auggie Tech, and Bethel will all win comfortably (along with the Hot Carls and SJU).

Seems a fair assessment. Hard to judge the Gustavus v Bethel game considering it was Breitbach's first start of the season (tough ask). Only having 2 incomplete passes (1 to the hands of the other team) while rolling up 730 yards and 72 points is a good bounce back. Hamline could prove to be a good litmus test or another ramp up for the GAC offense before SJU rolls into St. Peter.

Will be interesting to see if Augsburg can keep up the individual numbers into the second half of the season or if teams will start to / attempt to force checkdowns.

Hard to see Bethel leaving Moorhead without a W, but they may be kind enough to give up 7.

Hoping SJU comes out the gate ready to go so there's triple digit participation on family weekend. Perhaps a little unfair to think the Oles will rollover based on the outcome of the Augsburg game. 4 turnovers led to short field opportunities (35 yard average) and 28 points. Wasn't it STO who implemented the 2 down 9 deep defense in an attempt to stop the SJU air raid in 2019?

If they try that, Trost and Vouk will rip off 15+ yards per carry.

We're celebrating my Mom's 70th this Saturday, so I will have to settle for radio and/or Twitter updates.

Hamline's wins have come against Crown, UM-Morris, and CSS.  They are terrible, and I fully expect Gustavus to put at least 50 points on the board.

I'll be watching from home as well...wife mentioned something about a bike ride Saturday morning. Really don't need to waste credits earned driving up to Collegeville...gonna use up my credit the following weekend on the trip down to St. Peter.

I kinda agree with this.  I honestly didnt think we would be as bad as we are but we are BAD!! The uptempo offense is bad for us right now. Defense cant stay off the field.

My slam was on Hamline.  I'm giving CSS a free pass as a new MIAC member with a very young team.  Hamline has just sucked for ages!

I knew what you meant. Honestly none of the teams we have played yet have impressed me. I know coming off butt whooping you would think i'm crazy for saying that.

Not I think Bethel and St Johns will impress me. But watching Film on Carleton i'm not real impressed.

Well done.

AO - on a UMAC note, what changed with UNW football?  I don't pay much attention, but they were a dominant force in the not too distant past, right?

So just curious, not really, but just wondering when the last time MUC was ranked as low as 4th??   ???

The game notes for the St John's/St Olaf game have been posted to gojohnnies.com.

Based on the notes a couple of players could make their way into the top 10 of SJU record books this weekend.

Henry Trost sitting on 22 career rushing TDs. One more ties him for 10th and three ties him for 9th.
Ravi Alston needs 4 receptions and 135 yards to get to 10th in history for both categories.
Wouldn't put it past both to get the job done on Saturday.
