Son considering Concordia.  Any advice?

Not sure what you are looking to be assured of, or if I could impart anything that the admissions people cannot but...
As far is football, Horan is a genuine guy and the community (both college and greater community) support the team well.
The school students and faculty tend to be rather unpretentious. Academics are solid.  Health professions prep (including basic sciences), business, and music are big. Historically one of the highest med school acceptance rates in the country. Foreign language and international studies are also big.
Tuition has been very recently restructured to be more attractive to students otherwise considering the public colleges and universities in the area.
With about 200,000 people in the Fargo-Moorhead region, the school is very much a part of the community, but not swallowed by it.
I was there '79-'83, but my two daughters have been through more recently, and I never really lost touch with the school (though I live in the twin cities).

Anything specific??

Football/Track - NE Iowa

If he's a WR then he should have fun playing in the newly designed CON Air.  I suspect that the next few years will see some flash out of Moorhead.

The MIAC is a good competition.

@Tommie fans;

Are the Toms playing with essentially their same squad as the last time they played MIAC or has it been refilled?  Also, are the coaches the same or have they been turned over?

I'm curious to know if the Toms are competitive with essentially their D3 program or if they have had a big uplift since they left the MIAC.

Mostly the same squad and I believe all the same coaches.  This is effectively a D3 team, with some D1 freshman sprinkled in here and there.  Jam can fill in more for sure.

Interesting.  Thanks.

After decades of being a near exclusive run/option offense, they came out this year with a new offense that is more pass oriented. I dubbed it "Con Air" (Concordia Air) in the unveiling. Nothing official. I think I'm the only Cobber poster on this board, for what it's worth. Terry Horan is a very affable, likable guy, a smart coach and good leader.

A few of the coaches are "new", but in the same mold as the D3 guys mostly. Ikuenobe is a former CB from UST. Grayvold is a former UWW guy (CB also I think). Watkins is new and maybe a couple others but most came on board to fill holes before the COVID 2020 non-season. Maybe a few extra roles in the operations (coordinating travel is a little different now) and S&C side

As far as kroots, a similar situation where a number of the young guys contributing are second year guys that would have been D3 recruits. Adebayo, Bunce, a couple WRs. Then there is a few impact freshman that would be "D1 recruits" on the o-line, and a couple TEs plus a few D1 type transfers (Hall the WR/DB from D2 Winona State, Herzog LB transfer from UND, Fallah CB from Crookston). So parts and pieces but largely a D3 squad with some raw young talent/size that would have otherwise gotten a bag of cash under the table to end up in Collegeville

I think this is the first time in my 12+ years on post patterns where I have heard an accusation that SJU pays players under the table. Care to elaborate?

The payments are delivered in a bag, that part is true.  A plastic bag containing world famous Johnnie Bread delivered over the counter in the Great Hall.

UST was getting those types of transfers in the D3 era.  I'd say they had more talent on the roster when they made deep runs in the D3 playoffs.

Mostly standard rumors of gamesmanship with scholarship monies over the years. One specific case for a highly regarded recruit. Likely not entirely different from stuff lobbed the other direction. At this point, just fodder for friendly banter seeing as we aren't rivals anymore.

Yeah, none of the transfers are terribly out of the "ordinary" for what UST was getting, and largely D2 or D1 walk-in types.
The freshman long snapper Francl was actually pretty highly regarded though small for what high level D1 would be looking for. The biggest differences we'll see in a few years as some of the freshman, though raw, bring a different level of talent or size compared to what we've mostly seen. And I think next year's recruiting class is shaping up to be solid... who knows though

miac952

The UST defense has quite a bit more speed to the naked eye, compared to past years. The D appears to measure up at this level too. They carried the game against San Diego, and actually looked the part against UNI too, with some advance stats being comparable to UNI's higher caliber opponents.

The offense has some gaps to play at this level, and that is being kind. The QB play is lacking severely. There are a couple soft spots on the O-line, and they need a couple more playmakers. I'm also not so sure the scheme will work particularly well, but Caruso did manage high powered D1 offenses with USD and UND....so who knows.

D2* he was with USD and NDSU before they made the FCS jump.

The o-line has been gradually shifting towards talented but raw freshman taking more playing time.
