The biggest hurdle to playing scholarship FCS football will be actually landing an invite from the MVFC. It's a bit of a catch 22 IMO. Lets say UST becomes the top dog in the PFL and is closing the gap with scholarship FCS programs. That looks like a program that could compete in the Valley ... and that's exactly why the teams that make up the Valley (and recruit MN) wouldn't want to see an ascendant UST in the conference.

That is true. The new market presents an opportunity for them however. This is why Augustana was shunned at the 11th hour. If there is $$ to be made by the conference they will be invited in.

I think the bigger challenge would be the upheaval it would cause to the athletic department. You are talking about a major stadium upgrade, dropping at least 1 more mens sport and adding a womens sport. All that to be Title 9 compliant and meet the FCS stadium standards.

Game notes are out for SJU vs GAC - https://gojohnnies.com/news/2021/10/20/no-5-sju-footballs-week-8-game-notes-at-gustavus.aspx.

Two best offenses in the MIAC for scoring and yards per game. GAC perhaps boosted by 2 outlier games in the scoring category. Defense edges in SJU's favor. GAC looks like they'll want to get the run game going with their 6ft 200 lbs RB. Could be a tough outing if that gets stuffed as seen against Bethel. If SJU has to commit more to the run it could open up space down the field, although that appears to be limited to one half as many aren't interested in tossing to Deters island. GAC seems to clamp down on the run, but have difficulties defending the pass. GAC has a young core of skill guys on offense much like Augsburg. It'll be interesting to see how they battle, and what the MIAC might have to look forward to in the next few years.

I can't seem to understand all the hand wringing about facility upgrades and money. Look at the names on the buildings and the board of trustees. The money will come. Think joint ventures and "naming rights".
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

GAC have a run heavy offense.  That is unexepected from them.  And their pass defense gives up more yards than their pass offense gains.  And GAC has only five sacks through six games.

Methinks AirJohnnie(tm) will have a field day.

And 13 tackles for loss through 6 games...Johnnies have 41.

It's certainly doable, but it has its challenges and means prioritizing certain things over others and more importantly, making it work with the limited campus footprint (or off campus facilities, absent just buying and bulldozing more of the residential neighborhood)

I imagine the optics wouldn't look that great either for a university to be pouring 8, probably 9, figures into their athletics department (football) for vanity.

That being said, if/when UST does get there it would be amusing to see them get a 6-7 figure check to go play a non-conference game at Minnesota or another power 5 and win or a disgruntled booster buyout Caruso's contract because he isn't winning enough.

Long time, regular MIACPP posters know that the person on here that lives in the Northland and is historically the last person to kick his furnace on is Duffman.

Vegas Sharps earlier this fall set the over/under on this event at 12:01pm October 20th. Since then, large amounts of $$$ have been wagered on the over (after 10/20-12:01PM) however as the date approached there was a flurry of betting on the under.

Players worldwide await the unveiling. Duffman, did you kick on your Lennox from "Off" to "Heat" before 12:01pm yesterday or are you hanging on to the bitter end?  ???

Mine is a Trane, but no, I haven't turned it on yet!  Actually, I haven't even considered it.  It's been warm.

Maybe someone should challenge Duffman to see who can last the longest w/o heat. Kind of a Seinfeld "Master of My Domain" gig.  ;D

I'm not at all in the camp of waiting as long as I can to turn ours on...as soon as it's too chilly I let it run.

That being said, ours hasn't been needed yet either.  I think one morning the coolest it has been in the house was 65 when I came downstairs in the AM, but it warmed up plenty by late morning.

Schools have been pouring money into athletics vanity projects for years. The American public or those institutions caring about the optics is long since past.

Ours has been on twice and the gas fire place four or five times.
Ironically my wife likes the bedroom windows open at night...for some reason she's warm at night...it's about 45 degrees this morning! (menopause is a wild ride fellas).
