Some of you (Duff *ahem*) will remember Ryan Keating getting hurt against UW-Whitewater in the third game of the 2002 season and Ross Denne came in and led the Johnnies all the way to the NCAA Semifinal and lost a close one to Trinity in San Antonio.
That's only one of many similar chapters in Johnnie history. Jeff Norman, Will Seiler, Corey Stanger? We, as fans, have to trust the system.

Some calm, wise fella once said this: "Every year we lose irreplaceable guys but thankfully, more irreplaceable guys show up."

Maybe Tom Linnemann could be granted an 8th year? He's still under 50, right? ;D

There's a nice article, with video, of Bartch on a Jags website - Big Cat Country. I'm not tech savvy enough to post it, but maybe someone here is.

Backes has bided his time, paid his dues, came back for an "extra" season...son of a coach & Johnnie QB....quite a script for. "Cinderella story"...👍🏻

Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Were not kidding about an underclassman dominate CSS team (pretty sure it's a 2:1 Fr:So, Jr, Sr ratio). Some guys with solid frames. Take their licks this year (and maybe next), put some weight on, and they'll start going toe to toe with those in the MIAC.

Yea Man we have like 4-5 Sr's. I think its like 48 Freshman. 18 of the 22 starters are Freshman.  Looking at ST Johns size you guys will be able to just line up and run the ball down the field. Our Qb play is bad. We run our offense so fast our defense cant stay off the field with all the 3 outs. I was telling my boys look at the small things. You are getting blown out by most of these teams Sr's and Jr's. In the 2nd half against the Freshman and Sophomore Back ups move the ball and score here and their. SO on paper the guys like yall your beating or competing with.  JUst got to get bigger and stronger for the next few years.

No disrespect to CSS (those guys who upgrade a program are pioneers!), but I hope Backes gets one series in the third quarter and Cooper Downs gets some quality time as he steps into the backup role.

I imagine the optics wouldn't look that great either for a university to be pouring 8, probably 9, figures into their athletics department (football) for vanity.

Schools have been pouring money into athletics vanity projects for years. The American public or those institutions caring about the optics is long since past.

High schools do it in Texas while their standardized testing scores plummet  ;D

Fun fact: Every money that they spend in Texas on athletics in high schools they are also required to match in money for music and the arts.

If they spent $60 million on trombones and theater props in Allen, Texas, I've got some ocean front property in North Dakota to sell you.

Have you seen the size of their band?  It's bigger than the graduation classes of most MIAC schools!

There may be more passing than normal in the circumstances.  I'm glad CAR is having a good year.  The offense will be able to play all out.

SJU13

CSS playing @ SJU is probably best for both teams. Beyond peak fall, MIAC football, grill food & heavenly apples, it gets SJU a deeper bench than the travel squad. Gary has a healthy respect for opponents, and tries to manage games in hand to avoid lopsided scores. If all goes to plan it wouldn't be surprising to see Feddema, Underwood, or Bates being the leading rusher.

Since the shutout streak is over time to pick a new one. Trost has hit pay dirt 3+ times the last 3 games (4, 3, and 3 respectively). Does he make it four games?

The GAC vs Carleton game is an interesting one. On paper Carleton sports a defense that gives up less than 2 scores per game (3rd in MIAC) and the second best rush defense just ahead of Bethel. Konde ran for 350 yards in the 2 games prior to SJU before being held to 15. Looking back he didn't get that many yards against Bethel or Concordia either. A low scoring game would seem to benefit Carleton.

The cross-divisional game this week has Bethel headed down to Northfield to take on St. Olaf. The Oles are in a tough spot. Hopeful, but having to get by BU somehow to hang on to the number 2 position in the Northwoods Division. I suspect the Royals take control of the game early and use the last part of the game for player development.

The blow-out game this week has to be St. Scholastica at St. John's. Even though the Johnnies lost their starting QB last week in their win over Gustavus, I won't be surprised to see their defense get another shut-out this season. Double Monkey Stomp, anyone?

The last three games this week appear to be more competitive, on paper, at least. The first is between the Gusties at the Knights, also in Northfield. If Carleton can keep it close, they might come away with a mild upset. If Gustavus breaks it open, it might turn turn into a track meet for the WRs and DBs on both teams.

Augsburg at Concordia might become another nail biter for Cobber fans. The last two weeks have been tough on Concordia, and the Auggies are smelling blood in the water. QB Sheehan and WR Smith are currently #1 and #2 in the conference and if the Cobbers cannot stymie this duo, it will be a long day for the Cobber faithful.

The final game this week may be the final rivalry game of the season, as Concordia and St. Olaf are not currently scheduled to meet this year for the Troll Trophy. That game could come about in week 11 depending on each teams' final standings in their respective divisions. We'll have to wait to see. But this week's rivalry trophy game is for the Old Paint Bucket between Hamline at Macalester. The Pipers travel over to the Scots, for one of the shorter commutes between teams in the MIAC. I'm thinking that Hamline takes the Old Bucket home with them.

A large percentage of those kinds are getting marching ban scholarships at Power 5 schools, no doubt. Yea, that's a real thing......
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
