Lol, I've never actually watched SJU's.  Plenty to do around the house this weekend (and I haven't even been pheasant hunting yet... GASP!), but I'd like to watch a bit of the game (before it gets outta hand  :o).
Johnnies have really stepped up their webcast games. Decent instant replays and they've added crowd shots...plus video highlights at halftime! Biggest complaint is that they use the zoom too often which can be annoying and also causes them to miss things. It's not nearly as bad as Randy Shaver's Prep Sports extra camera guys zooming in on the line of scrimmage and balls being thrown downfield.

I think the plans are still on displaying in the upper level of Laird stadium, which as far as I know is open to the public

I don't think Tom Journell gets enough recognition. He took over a program that was left in a terrible state by the previous coaching staff. In the three seasons prior to his arrival, Carleton had combined to win three games. Journell in his first three seasons now has them in a position to win 14 games.

I agree.  He's doing a great job.   Carleton improving is good for everyone!

A tradition unrivaled...

I can't remember exactly, but I do recall St. Olaf students being free, but everyone else having to pay various amounts. I also remember a group of very confused Carleton students when the gatekeeper told them they couldn't bring their box of bud light into the game with them.

I'm glad you said that, I also really like Laird and was very proud of it. It could use a few cosmetic/QoL improvements here and there (the chain link fence). If you ever get to see the original plans for the stadium it's quite cool. The back side of the building was actually supposed to be a built-in train stop. So fans could catch a train and be dropped off right inside the stadium.

Is there some place online that one could find the original plans? I think old plans for stadiums are fascinating.

Guess I should've read down the thread further. Someone should take a picture of the plans this weekend (if feasible) and post it on the board.

As much as I like being able to rake leaves at 1:45 p.m. on a Saturday, having a competitive league is best for everyone. I would always get concerned in years where SJU would go undefeated in the regular season because there was always the thought in the back of my mind, "did they really get tested this year?" I hate the feeling that your first big test would come in the playoffs.

I don't think Carlton will pose a big test, not unless the Johnnies completely look past the game.  Backes settling in further and penalty free play.  Those should be the goals and if the Jays hit them then Carlton will face a long day.

I like that Carlton have really improved and hope they keep improving.  A bit of discipline and dedication goes a long way.  The Northwoods division is the stacked division this year, that's for sure.

What is St. Olaf charging these days?  I remember when all events were free.  I think towards the end they started charging visiting fans.  Alums, locals, and St. Olaf fans were typically free.

I've long thought Laird Stadium was the best in the MIAC for watching games.  It just had a great feel permanent stands and the fieldhouse underneath.  Also enjoyed that I could carry a case of beer in to the stadium without anyone caring!  We used to even have someone run to Tiny's at halftime for Chicago dogs!

I paid $3 to attend the St Olaf game last Saturday as a senior rate. If I remember correctly, I think the sign said $5 for adults.

I think the Oles just have students sit there and collect beer money for themselves.  However much they think they can get from you.  None of it goes to the school.  :o

I'm happy to support SJU, but if I recall, my season tix were nearly $500, and if I can't make it to a game and want to watch, I have to pay to stream it.  Add in concessions...
And they don't even have cheese for their burgers!  ;D

$500?  Total or each ticket?  That's half what I pay for my Melbourne Cricket Club membership which gives me unlimited access to events at the ground.  Of course, the past two years have been crap... but that aside.

Ice Bears says that's the **** that truly pisses him off. They can't get some packs of inexpensive American to throw on those? Ice would have to bring his own cheese. He'd ****ing do it.

If they walk out head to toe in blue...  I would find that challenging.
