Texas Ole

I was going to say if it is over $10 then it is ridiculous.  $5 isn't too bad considering you have to pay officials and others involved with the game.  I think I paid about $5 for an Auggie/Ole hockey game a few years ago.  I have a hard time paying $20-$25 for tickets to most sporting events.  Times are a changing.  Concessions at most MIAC events are pretty bad.  I think I remember hearing something about some burgers at the SJU tailgate being pretty special.

I haven't watched much on the MIAC stream this year.  Are schools even still using it?  It is a Roku channel.

Adidas money only goes so far to pay for several hundred blue unis. Start the payment process for matching pants.

From what I hear, the blues didn't cost SJU a cent.  I'd like to see blue jerseys with red pants.

SJU13

In terms of Carleton improvement 5 of the (current) 13 Ws have come from non-conference opponents,  3 from HU, 2 from Augsburg, and 1 from MAC (one non-con win was also MAC), 1 from Concordia, and 1 from CSS.

It'd be easy to scoff at the quality of opponents but if you think of MIAC in 3 tiers they're getting out of the cellar dweller to becoming a mid-tier team rather nicely. Another win against MAC would be 3 in a row in 2 seasons. Even on a down Concordia year that's a nice OT win they got. Keep the momentum, pick up non-conference wins, and pluck off some from GAC, STO, Concordia, BU, and/or SJU and you've got consistent winning seasons.

Given how both teams are doing this year a Carleton vs Augsburg game would've been an interesting measuring stick.

@carletonknights (and any others who are interested)

Gary was more free with his insight than usual when discussing Carleton this week on Football Weekly.  Particularly the Carlton defense.  A good listen.  Starts at about 17:30 after a full minute of on-air silence...

I saved the UUN for reading today as well and saw this interesting bit. An anonymous Johnnie coach is quoted as saying that this is the best defensive front four SJU has ever had.  The defensive front four were obviously strong from the very start of the year and they have steadily improved. If they are the best unit the Johnnies have ever fielded then I can't wait to see them lay into some of the post season competition.

Heh. I was wondering what you would think about that. :D

It's a pretty big claim. There have been quite a few front line hard nut defensive units at SJU over the years.  Anyways, let's hope this one ends up earning a top shelf honor.

Can't leave it on a cliffhanger looks like the WI HS football saga has come to an end: https://madison.com/wsj/sports/high-school/football/madison-edgewoods-football-season-is-over-why-a-judge-said-he-cant-change-that/article_2f12b54d-5b1a-5560-b14b-7c077a67acf9.html

In its lawsuit, Edgewood maintained it had cleared Fane with the WIAA in the spring, granting Fane a residence and transfer waiver after submitting documentation of extenuating circumstances allowing a variance from usual WIAA rules.

But on Monday, the WIAA ruled Fane was ineligible to play because Edgewood had not sought or been granted a fifth-year eligibility waiver for Fane.

The WIAA accused Edgewood in court documents of trying to "dress up" its previously-approved residence and transfer waiver for Fane as a fifth-year eligibility waiver in an effort to mislead the WIAA.

As a sanction for the apparent violation, the WIAA stripped Edgewood of its 40-0 win in the Division 4 playoffs over Kewaskum and all 11 of its wins this season. Instead, Kewaskum will play Columbus in the state quarterfinals Saturday at 7 p.m.

So the school knew and pulled a shifty and the judge ruled they were unlikely to succeed in convincing him otherwise.

This year's defensive front is very good.  It's tough to compare across years, and there have been some really good d-lineman throughout the years, but it's generally a strength of those really good SJU teams.

I was average but had the luxury of playing along side some greats (Hood, Weinandt).

I was going to say that the 2003 D-line was pretty good. They also had some top notch LB's as well. And we can't forget that secondary where all had picks in the Stagg.

I'm ready for another national championship!

I think the Oles just have students sit there and collect beer money for themselves.  However much they think they can get from you.  None of it goes to the school.  :o

I'm happy to support SJU, but if I recall, my season tix were nearly $500, and if I can't make it to a game and want to watch, I have to pay to stream it.  Add in concessions...
And they don't even have cheese for their burgers!  ;D

Ice Bears says that's the **** that truly pisses him off. They can't get some packs of inexpensive American to throw on those? Ice would have to bring his own cheese. He'd ****ing do it.

Ice likes cheese more than ****ing people

Hazz thinks Icebear should come around more. You're a fun addition.

I can't compare but I watched Coy, Froehle (Chuck) and LaRose etc. They played both ways but did wear helmets.  ;D
