Nick VanErp arguably made the play of the game with the two point conversion off the bad snap.  At least I think it was a bad snap.

FINAL STANDINGS

My spreads were pretty off this week, St. Olaf over Augsburg was the first victory by a double-digit underdog in a while.  Thanks to everyone for following along and picking!  Best of luck to the Johnnies and hopefully Royals in the playoffs, that was a tremendous championship game.

The HALL OF CHAMPIONS:
2021: AO
2019: AO
2018: FCGrizzliesGrad
2017: Tom Thumb
2016: Finsleft
2015: ChicagoTommie
2014: wm4
2013: FCGrizzliesGrad
2012: miacmaniac
2011: Finsleft
2010: Finsleft
2009: sju56321
2008: AO
2007: AO
2006: Piperinsider
2005: Frankrickard/Repete

Thanx, AO, for running this every year - it's a hoot!

Indeed, congrats, and thank you to AO!  I think I led all year until tripping on the 5 yard line today.  If the johnnies had at least had the decency to cover the spread on top of ripping BU's hearts out, that would've been enough to push me over the top!  Oh well.

At least I think it was a bad snap.

Definitely was a bad snap.

I'm easily distracted and wasn't paying attention.  The long snapper tore his ACL on that play.

Attendance at bethel today?

Per the box score, 5,982.

Johnnies travel well, again.  Figure we made Bethel somewhere in the range of $12k today.
Thanks! When I checked before it wasn't listed

Who is the MIAC MVP?

Honestly, there's usually a fairly obvious choice, but no one sticks out to me.  Trost is a beast, but I don't know that he put up MVP stats (probably more due to the system he plays in).

Roste is a good choice--not a MIAC champ, though.

This is where I'm at. Trost is a really good back, but those aren't MVP numbers at RB. The SJU QB injury/swap made it muddy.

And came back in to snap the game winning XP.  Courage in that fella.  I say strap up his knee and keep wheeling him out until the Stagg.

EDIT:  Secret footage of him getting fitted for his new brace has already hit the internet.

Difficult for a Johnnie to be MVP. Played two starting Qbs and the rest of the skill players were only in there for the first half in many of the games. Don't rack up big stats that way. Case in point: Trost had a monster game with I think 4TDs in the first half but wasn't  Player of the week since he had few carries and only about 105 yards.

Trost only had 122 carries.  Only 3 against Scholastica, where he could have padded his numbers.  Something to consider, he had 17 rushing touchdowns, in only 9 games. Next, with 11 each, are Roste and Kunkle of Bethel.

No one really stands out as MVP just on numbers.  I would vote for Trost based on the impact he had on winning.  Led the league in touchdowns and was called on frequently when tough yards were needed.

Roste led the league in combined passing and rushing yards, so maybe it should be him.

If a Johnnie gets MVP. I would think it would be Alston.

Also, I watched a couple games on you tube over this week. The 1976 Stagg Bowl, SJU over Towson St. And Gag's #409 game. They came from behind against Bethel late in that one as well.

I know it's not as common, but is there a defensive standout that would make sense, assuming from SJU or Bethel

I know I am a sap, but I had to re-listen to the final Johnnie touchdown and the reaction in the booth! I love Bryan Backes' moment of emotion and pride in his son. It made me verklempt!🥰

Prior to the game winning extra point today the guy two over on my left asked me if I remembered another 28-28 Johnnie game that came down to a last second kick.  I did, 45 years ago, 1976 Stagg Bowl.  Three seconds left.  Number 2 kicks it right down the middle as time expired.  The guy to my immediate left, Veek Sr. was in attendance.  They guy who two over on my left was number 2, Jeff Norman.

If you are so inclined go here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwvLAClYL4Y and fast forward to the 2:20 mark.

Still gives me goose bumps.

Spectacular.  45 years later and the Magic still pulses from the screen.
