Man, poor Bartch. He's got the Rona AND plays for the Jags. There was a big kerfuffle in the news here yesterday about a woman in Israel who simultaneously had mild cases of rona and influenza, flurona they called it. You need to be a six six man-mountain to clear jagrona.

With Urban Meyer gone I guess Rona is worse than playing for the Jags.  Before Meyer was gone?  Tough call.

It would be great if Bartch could talk publicly one day about the differences between a pro team (his in particular) and SJU.  Or similarities, but I expect most of the fun talk to be about the differences.  I'm sure he's telling coaches and friends but it would be interesting for us, the great unwashed, to hear as well.

I imagine that'd be good table talk at an alumni dinner. I think about the only similarity in coaches is the penchant to pop a blood vessel on occasion. Haven't seen any Record articles about Gary hanging with the coeds at Sal's or swinging a leg at a kicker.

I'd want details on D3/SJU vs. Pro Team vs. Urban Meyer team. Urban is so sketchy ...

Looks like football season ended just in time before waves of cancelations for winter sports events.

Johnnie basketball vs. Bethel last night was canceled.
Hockey vs. UW-Superior tonight has been canceled, and
Swimming's home invitational for Saturday has ben canceled.

Here's what I find most interesting:

According to the MIAC COVID-19 competition plan, any contest that is unable to be completed due to COVID-19, roster-related issues on the assigned date will be considered a forfeit in the conference standings. This plan was approved by the MIAC President's Council in October.

The Johnnies will be credited with a 2-0 win [vs. Bethel] in the MIAC standings. For NCAA purposes, however, the game will be declared a "no contest" and does not count in the overall record.

It's not looking good. My kid's school had over 70 reported cases. My school has hundreds of students out (either positive cases or close contact or families choosing to not send kids). We also have about a dozen staff out.

In other news....it looks like U$T is trying to acquire the former rail yard at the Highland Park Ford Plant site to build an arena and baseball and softball fields.:

As of yesterday, our kids' school only had 14 out of about 850 out, which surprised me (though I am sure that will pick up soon).  Ugh.  :-[

We've also had a number of positives at work this week, and of course, had a lot of people bunched together waiting to be tested. :o

The Toms may actually be good enough to qualify for the Summit League Tournament in their first year. The Tournament takes the top 8 teams (out of 10 total in the league) and the bottom two stay at home. Toms are in 3rd right now (2-1 in the conference), but they haven't played anybody from the top half of the league. This will be their first real test against ORU tonight. Four of the Toms' next five games are against teams picked to finish in the top four in the pre-season poll.

I don't believe they're eligible to participate in the tournament for the first 4 or 5 years.

You're right:

"According to Summit League Commissioner Tom Douple, St. Thomas' men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field, swimming and diving, cross-country and golf teams can participate in the conference's championships. Other sports — including men's and women's basketball, soccer, volleyball, tennis, baseball and softball — can compete in only regular-season play. Douple said that's based on team vs. individual sports, since the Summit League's conference champions earn an automatic bid to the NCAA postseason, and because many of the conference championships don't involve all 10 member teams, instead taking only the top regular-season finishers."

Did you watch the Oral Roberts game?  I watched most of it - other than one player, who was in a different place athletically than everyone on UST (Oral's Max Abmas, who put up 38 points, and has a legit shot at getting into the NBA - probably not drafted, but could be a reserve guard), UST really matched up with them reasonably well.

Early in the second half they had the lead slashed to 6 (50-44), but then OR went on a run and it mostly stayed out of reach the rest of the night.

Just saw that UMHB's Coach Fredenburg is retiring.  What an amazing career!

From what I've seen, Abmas maps out as a late 2nd round guy. Wolves supposedly had a guy in the gym to watch him.

Riley Miller was cold from 3, attributed to some tough D.

Fun game and fun UST team to watch. A shame they can't take a run at the D3 playoffs considering we play almost exclusively D3 guys and nobody in the MIAC is ranked now
