For those of you that have been around long enough to remember GAC's Ryan Hoag, this is pretty rich:

making large amounts of money; usually kept in stacks

That doesn't really make sense in this context.

In this context it makes perfect sense. I imagine going from coordinator at a non-powerhouse D3 school to OC for Deion Sanders comes with a hefty increase in money stacks (especially if the rumors are true that they essentially bought the #1 recruit in the nation for $1M+).

Sure, but the Hot Carls use the "keepstackin" hashtag with most of their football releases.  How much money is the football team stacking?  I'd wager they're a financial loss for the school.

I don't know, but I view it as 'just keep stackin successes'. Keep getting better every day.

There are already 27 automatic bids in football for a 32-team field which is locked at a maximum of 32 teams by rule. Lowering the standard in football could quickly result in 28 or 29 automatic bids making up that field, as soon as 2022 or 2023, leaving even fewer at-large bids.

This should be the death of the two divisions in the MIAC as Bethel got the last two-loss non-AQ bid.

Quote
The Division III membmership overwhelmingly approved changes to football practices and limited days with full contact in practice in a three-prong package that affected the preseason, regular season, and spring football. The adopted proposal limits football teams to two practices in full pads per week during the regular season, or three practices in a week where a team is not playing a game. This was supported by the American Football Coaches Association.

Preseason practice changed as well, setting a maximum of eight practices in full pads and no more than two days in a row of full contact during the season. Contact cannot occur for more than 75 minutes per day. And in the spring, players would be allowed to wear helmets for all of the maximum 16 days where spring practice is permitted. On four of those days, players could also wear shoulder pads and take part in tackling and blocking drills. This passed 295-68-87.

A proposal to bring back redshirting, which was removed in the early 2000's, was narrowly tabled and sent back for additional discussion and discovery.

And it looks like the growing haves/have-nots divide will be addressed by putting a really low ceiling on what the haves can do, a ceiling so low that it is within reach of virtually every team.  I suspect this will actually accelerate the player talent gap (and the investments top teams make in recruiting) since with fewer minutes the need for higher quality is even more pressing.  Also, will arms race coach staffs and facilities, for the same reason.  We'll see how the gap grows or shrinks over the next few years, I guess.

Yeah that's obviously what it means. You hear NFL coaches and players use the phrase all the time, maybe when Journell first arrived at Carleton it was a relatively new phrase, but it's ubiquitous now.

Sounds like recent Bethel Grad and former DB Tavian Swanson is now on deployment with the Navy in Bahrain.

Oz, I'm going back and forth on if I should ask you to give him advice for his time in the Navy  :o ;)

Heh. From the shore patrol report I had a good time in Bahrain. Surprisingly a lot to do in that town when I was there.

The #KeepStackin bar for Carleton against SJU is quite a bit lower--like "Keep Stackin' first downs", or "Keep Stackin' games against SJU where we beat AO's spread."

Whatever they're stacking, it seems to be working.  7-3 with a win over the Cobbers was a pretty amazing season.

Fair enough, but we've seen this from Carleton before. The Knights went 7-3 in 2008, beating Bethel (17-14), St. Olaf (21-7), GAC (30-29 OT), and Concordia (41-28), and narrowly losing to UST (31-33) and SJU (10-14). Let's see if they can string together back-to-back winning seasons, something they haven't done since 1992-93 (going 8-1, winning the MIAC for the first time since 1920, and 5-4, respectively).

The 2008 SJU game was a thriller as Carleton's Matt Frank found Shane Henfling on a 4-yard TD pass with 50 seconds to play, giving Carleton a 10-7 lead. Then SJU's Joe Boyle connected with RB Jeff Schnobrich for a 22-yard TD pass with 16 seconds left to cap a 4 play 62 yard scoring drive in 34 seconds. The Johnnie D stood firm on Carleton's final series giving the Johnnies a 14-10 victory.

That would be a good VOJ classic radio call to resurrect for the video board. I remember my buddy Jeff running a nice wheel route and beating the DB.

If they could have done that a couple more times inside the two minute mark, it would have matched the Josh Allen-Patrick Mahomes performance we saw last night.
