Is week one Sept. 3rd?
Do the Johnnies also have week 3 open or as a bye week?
Here's what d3football shows for open dates:
https://www.d3football.com/opendates/2022/index

Week 2
Brockport
East Texas Baptist
Hardin-Simmons
Howard Payne
Mary Hardin-Baylor
St. John Fisher
UW-Eau Claire

UWEC is the easy answer. ETBU or HS would probably be game. SJU probably doesn't want UMHB. Maybe SJF would be open if everything else fell through.

Could you imagine SJU tackling both UWW and UMHB as Non-con opponents  :o

I think they'd win the high SoS award!

Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Johnnies with a huge last-second win over Augsburg on Saturday night. The Johnnies broke a 2-2 tie on a goal by Auggie Moore with 0.1 seconds left in the game to give the Johnnies the win.

U$T makes bid to buy Town and Country!!!
I'd heard rumors but didn't think it could actually happen.

Let's be realistic about this. UST made an unsolicited offer. The CC made a point in the e-mail to its members that the offer was unsolicited multiple times. I doubt that one of the oldest clubs in the Twin Cities will sell out.

There's got to be another purpose for that offer. Publicity? UST had to know that the club's leadership was going to have to disclose the offer to its members, many of whom which would leak the story to the press.

Faunch, I have to imagine you may, by virtue of living in the general area, know some people who are TCC members. Is the club in financial trouble? (think Hillcrest GC about a decade ago)

I know a few but not well and don't have any idea about the financial situation or what the membership numbers might be.
Hillcrest was in a much different situation. I actually worked there one summer 18 years ago. It was a great course and had some of the fastest greens I have ever played on. Geographically the course was in a lousy location and they struggled to get members. I think the summer I worked there they were around 100-150 members. A few years later they offered a really enticing membership package and my wife and I attended a free brunch and briefly discussed if we could afford to join...we could have afforded it for a year or two but it wasn't worth it to drive 20-25+ minutes in traffic to play a little golf and have the kids swim in a pool.

I wonder how many T&C members are also U$T alums and how they might feel about a sale.

Heh.  You're supposed to self test and then turn yourself in for a stay at a Centre for National Resilience (Yes, the actual name, can you believe it?).  If you and the better half come down for a visit I promise to hide you from the covid marshals.

I came across an article from Forbes where they rate the financial fitness of every private school in the country (for which they could obtain data). The data is a few years old (2017), but I imagine is has to be reliable for the sake of conversation. It made me think about how this pandemic may change the landscape of colleges across the country. Some have already closed, others will soon close. I worry for a few schools in the MIAC if they end up being collateral COVID-19 damage.

Here's how the schools in Minnesota fared:

MIAC

Augsburg College                                    2.10    C
Bethel University                                    1.85    C
Carleton College                                    4.37    A+
College of Saint Benedict                    2.54    B
Concordia College at Moorhead            2.82    B
Gustavus Adolphus College                    2.43    B-
Hamline University                                    1.59    C
Macalester College                                    4.11    A
Saint Johns University                            3.49    A
Saint Mary's University of Minnesota    2.27    C+
St Catherine University                            2.49    B-
St Olaf College                                    3.71    A
University of St Thomas                           3.22    B+

UMAC

Crown College                                    1.42    C-
The College of Saint Scholastica            2.23    C
Martin Luther College                            3.19    B
Northwestern College                            3.25    B+
North Central College                            2.56    B

MacMurray College, which recently announced it would close at the end of the 2020 school year, did not provide any data, so there is no real good point of reference. St. Joseph's College in Indiana did provide data (1.77, C) and it closed its doors in 2017.

Here's the site if you want to check the methodology for yourselves: https://www.forbes.com/sites/schifrin/2017/08/02/2017-college-financial-grades-how-fit-is-your-school/#31f931d7d68d

A few years ago, when Covid first hit, I openly wondered what the pandemic would do to the MIAC. Right now the verdict is still out. Some schools (Gustavus) improved their health substantially. Others... well, not so good.

See for yourself (sorted by 2021 score):

Here's the link to the new numbers if you wish to explore for yourself: https://www.forbes.com/sites/schifrin/2021/02/22/college-financial-grades-2021-will-your-alma-mater-survive-covid/?sh=65c243424916

My theory on the Tommie bid for Town and Country:

PR move by them. They don't expect this offer to be accepted. They are/will face stiff opposition from Highland residents over their previously expressed interest in the land adjacent to Highland Bridge, the old Ford Motor site being redeveloped by Ryan Companies. They'll argue they pursued every other option therefore the city must approve that plan. As someone who drives past that location frequently I  can only imagine the traffic on game night.

The membership at Town and Country tends to be fairly affluent. The after tax benefit to members will not be sufficient for enough members to vote in favor. Many of whom are multiple generation members.

St. Thomas knows all this.

St. Thomas has a history of bullying the city and the neighborhood. Will be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out.

Another negative of both these plans is the removal of the land from the property tax rolls. St. Paul already has way too much property not paying taxes.

I've been saying for a while that St. Thomas should buy Hamline. Sam's info would seem to support that as an option.
