Despite not really liking basketball, I followed the Jonnies v Scots game on twitter.  Mac played their guts out.  It hurts twice as much when you still lose after playing your best, but still congratulations to them.  They gave everything.

More congratulations to the Johnnies, of course, who now go onto (hopefully) some post-season glory.

Macalester had the hot hand early and had some momentum in the first half.

Hats off to the Scots on making this an exciting game! Also, Macalester brought a solid following of fans to Collegeville. The place looked quite full, which was surprising given how Covid has towered over the season and, in my perception, suppressed attendance.

We had an awesome crowd in Roseville too, standing room only.  Maybe we're starting to see the pent-up demand from not having a D3 champ since 2019.

Also, I suspect, you know, bombs everywhere.  Who really GAF about covid this week?  At least in this part of the world, no one can give two-tenths of one damn about covid.  It's Ukraine v Russia 24x7 for the European heavyweight belt.

Looked like UNW got more of a scare in the semi-finals than the championship?

Congrats to SJU - and also to Mac - I was expecting a bit more of a lopsided game.

There was a 3 way tie for the 2nd seed, Bethany was probably the best of the 3 teams in that tiebreaker but still ended up with the 4 seed.  Hoping we get sent somewhere new this year, might end up with the Johnnies in the same pod, but not likely to be a first round matchup.

The fellas at D3Hoops are projecting UNW traveling to Elmhurst.

Johnnie basketball headed to Platteville, Wisconsin to play Calvin University. SJU and Calvin have some common opponents in Hope College, and UW-Oshkosh.

Calvin was swept by Hope, 78-65 at home, 93-81 at Hope, and 76-68 at Hope in the MIAA Tournament Final.
The Johnnies lost to Hope, 62-58, at a neutral site (Bloomington, Illinois) all the way back in mid-November.

Calvin lost at UW-Oshkosh in the BSN Classic in Oshkosh at the end of December, 78-56.
The Johnnies lost to UW-Oshkosh at a neutral site (Bloomington, Illinois) in mid-November, 89-55.

That was a tough tournament, in Bloomington - host team was play-off bound Illinois Wesleyan (home of Jack Sikma).

For what it's worth, Johnnies were missing Mitchell Plombon for those losses.

Further, Johnnies beat UW-River Falls in the season opener, which beat UW-Platteville a couple weeks ago. FWIW  ::)

I hadn't taken the time to go back to that tournament in Bloomington. Now that you say it, I remembered the Johnnies being shorthanded.

I'm hoping the Johnnies can rattle off a few wins. They've shown they are a team capable of playing at a very high level. It's an exciting time to be a Johnnies fan.

I had a quick look at the brackets.  I am right to say that SJU and Northwestern are the only two MN schools to qualify?  And the WIAC got three schools?  Tough luck for AUG.  They probably had to lose in the final to make it short of a conference championship.

Augsburg went 3–5 in their final eight games of the season.

They went from a virtual lock at the end of January to needing to win the conference tournament.

It's a long season...ran out of gas?

Hard to say. I didn't start following them much until late January.

They will be good again next year. They bring back three starters, namely MIAC Player of the Year Joe Palmer, Jack Sorenson, and 6'7" Bradley Winter. They also bring back MIAC 6th Man of the Year Rayquan Moore.
