So far, a shot of the giant spoon and cherry at the Guthrie has not been shown but the weekend just started. I have never appreciated the art in that damn thing, but what do I know.

BDB, you're such a heathen.

Hawthorn have started off the season spectacularly well.  And it's been a big season.  First off, we ended the reign of the legendary Alistair Clarkson as head coach.  Clarko had won four Premierships for the Hawks in his 18 years at the helm but he had given his best and the team has suffered the last four years.  It was time for him to move on.

Replacing Clarkson was club legend, Sam Mitchell.  Mitchell played under Clarkson, winning four Premierships, one as captain, a Brownlow Medal (league MVP), three All-Australian awards, five Peter Crimmins medals (club MVP), two Lou Richard's medals (media MVP) and a JJ Liston medal (minor leagues MVP).  After Sam retired from Hawthorn he went to the West Coast Eagles where he helped them win a Premiership as the midfield coach.  He returned to Hawthorn to head coach the Box Hill Hawks (our minor league side) and then was appointed senior head coach for this season.  And what a start he has had.

Anyways, we're fielding our youngest team in 17 years and they have played like guys who love the game.  We have just a few Premiership heros left in the squad and they are shepherding our next generation of champions.  The game against Carlton on the weekend was spectacular and a fantastic demonstration of the grit the side has developed.  Good times ahead, for certain.

@AO, I just realised as I typed this that I neglected to send the package as promised.  I will stop at the post office this week and send it off.  A couple goodies are inside for you.

Heh.  Run the pick 'ems for ten years, a thankless job, and I'll have more Hawthorn gear lying around the house to send.

Ravi Alston is turning some heads at Montana State!

Montana State receiving corps emerging at spring practice

Good for him! Love seeing D3 guys ball out, whether that's up a few divisions or in the pros. Always fun to see the top of our talent prove the quality of play at the D3 level.

In a similar vein, The Athletic polled players at the Pro Bowl about their votes for OPOY, DPOY, etc. In the category of most underrated (asking them not to vote for teammates), Hunter Renfrow won on offense with 3 votes. A bunch of other players all got a single vote, including ... Ben Bartch

QuoteBen Bartch, G, Jaguars: The second-year lineman from Division III St. John's in Minnesota stepped into a starting role in October and kept the job the rest of the season. The 2020 fourth-round pick, who bulked up from tight end in college, has made a good case to be Jacksonville's right guard.

Anyone heard an recruiting gossip?  I haven't seen much on Twitter--maybe I am not following the right accounts.

Happy Easter, all.  I hope you're having a great Easter weekend.

We're spending the long weekend down in Lorne.  Easter Mass in Lorne has the pretty good natural views, I reckon, ignoring the backyards between you and the beach.

Right now we're having some nice nibbles and champers while watching the footy on the deck before dinner while the neighbours down the hill are doing the same but feeding the cockatoos as well.

And #'s 2 & 3 went on a local tree top adventure climb yesterday with zip lines and such.  They were way up there as this type of gum tree is long, tall and straight.

EDIT: #2, "I'm such a champagne girl."  God help me.
