Quick question on pronunciations:  St Olaf?  Ol-OFF or Ol-if?

I have always said Ol-if but I was watching the track highlights and the announcer said Ol-OFF.  Am I not Minnesotan?

I've always said ol-IF, but now I have little girls and they were crazy for Disney movie "Frozen" and ol-OFF. They see it and say "Saint Ol-OFF"

Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

I've certainly heard it both ways but my mom and grandma were both Oles and they say O-lawf.

I've always said Ol-OFF. Speaking of Northfield, I hear rumors of positive things brewing on the east side of the Cannon. Some of the smaller changes mentioned include international exhibition games in the spring (I am doubtful) and coast-to-coast non-conference travel. There's talk of bigger things too that I think will truly surprise many around D3, but I'm going to wait until I hear that's a done deal before I spread more hearsay.

Obviously I view things through maize glasses but I truly believe the future is bright for the football program. I'm curious what the rest of you think is their ceiling and how many years it would take, under ideal conditions, to reach that level. Excited for the fall!

I know this was brought up several months ago, but it is worth re-posting again for context. Saint Mary's is near the middle of the pack as far as fiscal health. Makes me wonder what we could see from a place like Hamline in the near future.

By the way, Sag, I showed this to a friend of mine with intimate knowledge of Hamline's (and several other MIAC schools') finances and he snorted. Said they're not in great shape, but not in danger of closing anytime soon. The topic was sandwiched between drinks and other conversations so I can't remember what his reasoning was or his critiques of the article. Who knows? Maybe he is wrong

Speaking of hearsay, the Depp v Heard trial anyone?  That thing is more than a train wreck. It's what you get when two train wrecks wreck into each other. A trainplosion?

I know those lawyers make big bucks but dang. Talk about selling your soul. Hours and hours of question on turds in the bed, lines of coke snorted or not snorted. I would beat my dog so hard every night after a trial day like these that I would be on the RSPCA's speed dial.

I'm all for a critique of the assessment by Forbes. I'd be interested in hearing his arguments. It's not like I'm cheering for Hamline or any other MIAC school to close--in fact its quite the opposite.

There is a reason lawyers have higher rates of substance abuse and suicides.

One of my law school classmates was the law clerk for South Dakota's First Judicial Circuit in 2016-2017. His most notable assignment was being involved with the Pink Slime trial in Elk Point, South Dakota (a case that settled for $177 million taking place in a town with a population of 2,149). He talked about how ABC/Disney/Jim Acosta/etc. would fly attorneys in from Chicago, New York, D.C., etc. at over $1,000 per hour for a 30-minute status hearing. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/disney-pink-slime-lawsuit-settled-for-177-million-abc-news/

One thing that he said stood out is that there were a lot of expensive suits and accessories, very few wedding bands, and many of the attorneys were genuinely miserable human beings.

Retired Old Rat

You mean Jim Avila.  Jim Acosta never worked for ABC.

Well, I won't go so far as to indict every law career, but celebrity divorce lawyer to the stars does not appear to be my personal cup of tea.

Having a client who is willing to pay you $20K per month in legal fees sounds great until you learn what you actually have to deal with.

My daughter just finished 7th grade at Elk Point today.

Ah yes, the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies! Hopefully you avoided the severe weather this weekend. We had out swing set blown over for what feels like the tenth time this spring.
