Place your votes!

I'd vote for C with G coming in a close second.

I actually like the block SJU before they added the arch to it.  I think that is what the original ('02) SprinTurf field had.

How many of you remember the diagonal lines in the end zones when the field was grass?  One of my grounds crew duties in '99 was helping Rich Froehle paint the field--I spent a lot of time holding guide strings so that Rich could paint.  ;D

A tradition unrivaled...

Here's what I believe the original field looked like:

Not bad but the SJU makes me think of the baseball team.
The white end zone lines were the best!!!

G.

Is G. a tip of the cap to Randy Moss's pantomime mooning of Packer fans at Lambeau Field?

I loved working with Rich on the grounds crew. I started in the fall of 2003, so I never got to paint the field.

I think so....might need to print a few and take a bike ride over to the U$T campus!

Why was the "1" removed from the "SJU" logo? I liked the "1" in it! If we don't finish first, St John's is always #1 in my heart!

No reason given. It just disappeared.

My understanding is that it was interpreted by some as SJU trying to say "We are #1" and there was a feeling that it was arrogant. If you ever talk to creator of the SJU1 logo, Thom Woodward, the intent on including the "1" was a way of saying, "We are unified as one. We strive to be the best." I'm paraphrasing there, but I took it to be more aspirational rather than a declarative statement. I think somewhere along the line things got twisted.

I didn't love the "1", but I didn't hate it either. I'm kind of indifferent to its departure.

I like how Notre Dame use the same logo for all sports. Our baseball logo is too baseball old school to be used like that but the SJU logo isn't basebally enough for a ball uniform.

Oh, the difficulties.  My graphic designing capabilities are little advanced beyond using silly putty to take up comic strips, though, so my opinion is pretty ordinary.

I tend to disagree on the baseball logo. It's my favorite of all the old SJU logos. I believe it originated on a basketball uniform in 1918. Baseball didn't start using it on uniforms until around 2008-09. I would love if they resurrected it as a department-wide logo and rebranded everything consisted with that style--but that's just me.

I did some research on all of the old athletic logos used at SJU from 1901 to the present and put together a little graphic on it. I even had my graphic designer sister re-engineer some of the old logos from pictures of old uniforms. Once I find the flash drive I use to store the file, I will share.

Old and new field side-by-side. I really like the turf and the alternating greens. Still not sold on the helmet.

I know it's the offseason and all... but you guys are a tough crowd! That's a beautiful looking field.
