How many of you remember the diagonal lines in the end zones when the field was grass?  One of my grounds crew duties in '99 was helping Rich Froehle paint the field--I spent a lot of time holding guide strings so that Rich could paint.  ;D

I loved working with Rich on the grounds crew. I started in the fall of 2003, so I never got to paint the field.

I know many of you outside of Duff and I may not have known Rich Froehle ('65). He was probably one of the toughest and kindest men I've ever met. He took a genuine interest in the students that worked on the grounds crew with him. He was a two-time All-MIAC fullback in 1963 and 1964, helping the Johnnies bring home its first national championship in a 33-27 win over Prairie View A&M in 1963.

Sadly, Rich passed away last October.

I was a classmate of his older brother Chuck '57. He was a pretty happy go lucky guy until he got on a football field.

That's called white line fever here.  Cross the white boundary line and a player becomes a whole different person.

I can't remember if we used a similar term back home.

Any insight into how competitive the St John's/Whitewater game will be? Almost had them on the road in 2019. In looking up our history vs them we thumped them 42-18 on Sept 21st, '02 which was while I was in college & pre-Lance Leipold & the crazy success they've had since. The last four meetings have been on the road with all ending in losses. 11/26/2005 - L, 7-34, 12/2/2006 - L, 14-17, 11/22/2008 - L, 7-37, & then the 32-35 loss on 12/14/2019. Hopefully the home field advantage & improvement in our program is evident!

I think our defensive line will be a strength returning Seniors Wozniak, Faoliu Sophomore Zach Frank. That being said we got pushed around a bit by Linfield in the second half of the playoff game. The key early on will be if Syverson is clicking and can find someone to replace Ravi. Ironically we started last season pretty deep at QB (Syverson, Backes, and Downs). Only one of them remains as Backes graduated and I believe Downs has transerred. Alex Larson returns as a big target at Tight End and Altidort, Mohr, VanErp and Buck all have eligibility remaining.
That being said I would put us as an underdog against UWW. In my opinion we typically start out slow which we can get away with when playing a Scholastica, Marietta or East Texas Baptist.

In reviewing the last couple pages of the WIAC message board, someone posted that Whitewater has a new offensive coordinator as well as a new quarterback. After traveling to Collegeville to face the Johnnies they have a home game against Mary Hardin-Baylor on then go on the road to face Berry down in Georgia.

I'm pessimistic because, like Faunch mentioned, SJU typically starts out slow.  Who knows, though?  I'm a bit annoyed that the game was moved to Labor Day weekend.

True on that...could affect the crowd. I don't plan on going to the lake anyway.
River Falls won't be a slouch either.

I also heard that Devin Vouk was going to return but tore his ACL.

Hey Art, nice work with the BU Rocket team. Saw you in an article recently and meant to give you a shoutout!

Thanx Hazz! So, to get others up to speed, the Bethel University Rocket Society won the latest NASA sponsored MN Space-Grant Competition which was held this past school year. Because the results were not posted until mid-June, the accolades have gotten lost in the wash, as they say. We beat out Big 10 schools with huge engineering programs like UW Madison and Northwestern from Illinois. Other schools included UW Platteville, University of Iowa, University of North Dakota, and MIAC schools like Hamline and Macalester. We knew we had done well on flight day, as all three of our flights were nominal - but we were uncertain how we stacked up in the judging of the oral and written presentations that were due throughout the year. When it was announced, you could have knocked me over with a feather! Once a complete write up from the BU PR department is completed, I'll post a link here.

Scroll down BU's FB feed and see the blurb Hazz is talking about: https://www.facebook.com/betheluniversity/

That is incredibly impressive, Art. Congratulations!   8-)

Definitely post the official release here when it comes out! Very cool, and made me smile, thinking about all the rocket talk you've done on the boards through the years.

Nice work, Art.  The next domino to fall in Art's game of rocket domination... SpaceX
