As much as I enjoyed and appreciated MUC57, I cannot donate to Mount Union.  ;D  GiveSJU Day is approaching. I think I will donate in our late-friend's honor!  :)

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24
National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

Ice Bear

Ice Bear is really looking forward to keeping a close eye on the MIAC this season (especially the Royals) and watching some great D3 football here in the MIAC. Ice was super impressed with the level of play of the Johnnies and the Royals last season and is officially a MIAC fan now. Ice is hoping everyone on the board is doing well and is sad to hear of the passing of MUC57. Ice read the obit and MUC57 seemed like he lived a very accomplished and enjoyable life. Ice sends his condolences.

When Ice returns from the Cape this weekend he is looking forward to watching his beloved Garnet Dutchmen get at it during camp in Shocktown, USA. Hopefully the U can fill some spots and ride the running of Mr. Ike Irabor to an LL title back east.

A long time fan of DIII Football!

In the Twitterverse, I am seeing lots of MIAC footballers reporting for fall camp today.  They've begun their 4-5 year journeys of getting their asses handed to them by the Johnnies.  :o

Go Johnnies!
Go MUC57! (RIP)
Boo the rest of the MIAC (and St. Thomas)!
Drove down Snelling Ave this morning and the MAC Scottys were on the field.

This excerpt was just pushed via the BU Alumni Office:

"A new visitors' bleacher. Work is nearing completion to add permanent seating on the visitors' sideline. These bleachers will span from 20-yard line to 20-yard line, which Cocalis says will help give the stadium an enclosed or "bowled-in" feel."

Ice says so far the track and entire set up looks fantastic. Ice says he's excited to see the finished product with the visitor seating completed. Ice says this looks like a great facility for the entire BU community. Ice says very ****ing nice.

Had considered picking up the St. Cloud Times for the season again, but I see sports guy/photographer Zach Dwyer was among the latest Gannett/Gatehouse layoffs. That leaves one sports writer (preps) on a tiny staff.

Sad to see what's become of the paper of Auggie/Reusse. I had a January interim internship back in the early '70s and it was a lively, solid old-school newsroom full of characters. It's an industry-wide problem, of course, but Gannett's soulless cookie-cutter business  model seemed to accelerate the decline.

I'm coming to Collegeville with a UWW alum for that tilt on 9/3. Is there a way to get tickets in advance?

If you run into problems, lemme know.  I have 4 tix/reserved seats, and I don't know if/how many I'll be using that weekend.  I usually play it by ear with the weather.

I'm coming for the River Falls game - hope to see as many of you as possible. FYI, SJU#13 is starting his 11th season in Japan and I hope Japan can open up in time for me to get over there again to see a game. Watching the championship in the Tokyo Dome has been a blast.

I was there in the late 90s/early 2000s. Frank, DeLand, Elliott, etc were all there as well as two part timers in sports. It was the beginning of the end - the internet was just starting to drive down revenue (I remember when they first put ads on the front page. A former Johnnie was second in command in the newsroom. He was crying when he broke the news).

Speaking of crying, that was the year Gags was suspended and the Times made it front page news. He was less than enthused, and my memory is he made the young reporter then on the Johnnie football beat cry. She left the following year, I believe, and Frank took over.

Was fun covering the 2000 election, too. You're there until 2 am.... And no winner was called. That was a first.

You know things are bad when your teaser rate is $0.16 per month and hardly anyone is biting.

It's nice that SJU has become a refuge for Deland, Frank and others. Gannett (especially now under Gatehouse) is the worst of the worst.

I know I had been critical of Frank back in 2011-12 when the wheels were coming off the football program, but I'm glad he's landed at SJU because he does great stuff for the school. Same thing goes for Dave DeLand, really glad to have them both.
